Bridal Dress Salons in Greater Philadelphia Area?

Hi Everyone!
I am getting married in the Outer Banks, NC in Summer 2013, but I'm a local Philly girl and want to get my dress in the area.
Any suggestions for some nice dress stores in the area that will give me a selection, but not cause a huge strain on the budget? i would like to stay under $1K for the dress.

Also, I was planning on getting the dress after I booked the venue so i knew how 'fancy or casual' I had to be.  But I probably wont officially book a venue til the end of this summer.  Is under 1 year too late to start dress shopping?

Thanks for your help!!

Hello and Welcome! I got my dress from Bridals by Danielle in Center City. They do have a  few racks with lower priced dresses that are in your budget. I don't think under a year is too late to start dress shopping.

I didnt go to too many shops when I was dress shopping.. only David's Bridal in Plymouth Meeting, Demetrios and Alfred Angelo (avoid it!!!) in Cherry Hill . They have plenty of dresses under 1K for you. I started to look at my dress about 13 months before the wedding, ordered the dress and my dress was hanging in my closet about 8 months before the wedding... i dont think you're late for dress shopping at all...

Btw: I did the same thing...we looked for venues first.. once we signed the contract with the venue, i knew what kind of style of dress i wanted and went from there... good luck!

Thank you ladies! this is a very helpful start!
tdmaus-where did you end up buying your dress at??
  • You should try Sabrina Ann's in Ardmore.  It's a consignment shop with new and one wed gowns, she has amazing gowns for good prices.  I looked around her shop when I thought I wanted a new dress.  I also looked for shoes and my FG dress there.

You can get a high end dress for way less.

Also try the Sample Rack, it used to be on South St, I think it moved though.

I bought my gown from Priscilla of Boston, but it's not a choice anymore.
  • I got my dress at L&H Bridal in NE Philly. They have a really nice selection of dresses, and my dress was about 1K. I think their prices start lower than that.

I loved a dress at Demetrios... their dress quality was definitely better than David's Bridal...but i actuallly ended up buying mine online... with additional modification  (beadings) to the original Demetrios dress i tried on in the store... you can see my dress in my profile... I dont recommened to buy dresses online though - since there is definitely a high risk factor to it (i'm probably one of the rare success stories :)

  • I purchased my gown from Bijou Bridal in Ardmore.  They have a great selection of designers so you'd find dresses within your price range without a problem.  The staff is excellent and I've had a wonderful experience with them so far.  I'd actually recommend waiting until under a year to purchase since your dress style may change as your wedding planning progresses.  Best wishes!

Country Bride and Gent in Bensalem!! (Or West Point)

I wass worried their dresses would be too expensive, but when you go in they ask your budget. We didn't give them a number because I was with my mom (and she was buying the dress) but I just kinda looked at her and was like.. ummm I don't know ask my mom haha.

But seriously, the woman showed me BEAUTIFUL dresses and the quality is way better than anything at Davids (We had just been to davids the day before) And then when I saw the price tags and was expecting them to be over 1000, they were not at all! The prices ranged from 600-800 which was the same prices as the ones I had liked at davids. The dress I ended up purchasing was $690. And I am in love with it!

  • i also got my dress at Bijou in Ardmore... and to say I love them there is not saying enogh.. i found a dress that I loved that was way over budgt. i e mailed the picture to them to see if they had anyhing like the dress and she e mailed me back, and was WONDERFUL.... said to come it she had two. And low and behold, I looked at one, practically ran into the fitting room and didn't want to take it off.
They are truely amazing in there.  Even how you try your dress on was WAY better then all the places I have been.. Country Bride, Ariel, Ashley's .... i love them
