April 2013 Weddings

I guess I really am a DIY bride.

I told myself when I got engaged that I wouldn't go overboard with DIY, that I'd save my sanity and be ok with spending the money to buy what I wanted.

And then I realized no one had what I wanted for sale. Which resulted in me slowly adding more and more DIY things to my plate.

Tell me I'm not alone! What are you DIY'ing for your wedding? Are you ready? Are you done with all your litte projects?

Here's my completed list of DIY things:
Hand made robes for my MOH and myself.
My garter.
Aisle decorations
Reception decorations for the pillars
Reception table centerpieces
Cake topper
STDs
Invitations
Thank you cards
Home-brewed beer
Home-brewed beer labels
Seed cones
Hand stamped/monogrammed tote bags for Best Man, MOH, Flowergirl, myself and my fiance.
Charm necklaces for Mom, Flower girl and MOH.
Sash for flower girl's dress
Chalkboards for info/directions/etc
Embroidered handkerchielfs for Mom, step dad, Dad, step mom, Best man and MOH, myself and fiance with individual names and the wedding date.

I'm fairly positive I'm forgetting something , and there's still a couple of things to be done.

P.S. - Not to be outdone, my fiance is knitting his own socks for the wedding because he found a pattern called "Matrimony socks" ... I kid you not.

I'm really not much of a DIY person, but my FI is going nuts!  I'm glad to hear yours is knitting bc mine handmade candle holders out of birch as wedding favors.  He is also carving our initials into half a tree which will sit on the favor table.  He's doing the centerpieces, too.  Meanwhile, I'm pretty useless!

The handkerchiefs weren't that difficult. Just patience, consistency and either a good eye for writing out pretty letters, or a pencil to transfer font specific letters over onto the handkerchief. 20 minutes per handkercheif? I did super simple stitches too though.

Never useless, without you there would be no wedding. You're the bride!
Besides, you're probably also being awesome to your FI while he's doing all these things, and that's pretty important.

Invites and programs aren't that easy, you give yourself too little credit I'm sure.

You've got the right idea for the rest of it though! If you don't want to , or can't, do something might as well have someone who does take care of it. Etsy is fantastic for that!

I posted a picture in one of my earlier posts but I am cross stitching all the escort cards. I then have to cut them out and paste them to pieces of purple paper. My FMIL is doing A LOT for us, though. She is Puerto Rican and so traditionally in Puerto Rico the bride gets a doll. She is crocheting the doll's dress to imitate mine, making the favors for my shower AND wedding, and making the centerpieces. I love this woman!

Wow that's intense! We're not doing too much:

    Programs
    Table numbers
    Escort Cards
    Menus
    Baggies of jordan almonds
FI is making his groomsman gifts

Most of our DIY was designed based. We designed our save the dates and thank you cards and ordered them from vistaprint. The same logo has then been echoed in our invitations, programs, table numbers, menus, and escort cards.

I guess I also made a scarf for FI's grandmother who is making our cake topper. I wanted to give it to her as a thank you :)

Wow you have done a lot! I am sooo not a crafty person but I have done  a few DIY projects to save money:

    Centerpieces for reception
Bought kits and did my own invitations
    Cake Topper
    Menus for the bridal shower

Your cross stitching looks awesome. I would love to see a finished product picture when you're done!

Sounds like a healthy (more sane) amount of DIY to me! Design is just as difficult as full DIY since you pour your creativity into making it special. I say it totally counts.

Awesome, I really contemplated the kits for invitations I just couldn't find a design I liked enough. What does your cake topper look like?

Wow, you guys rock! The only DIY I'm doing is place cards/seating chart and menu cards... which I know doesn't take much effort, haha.

I got really lucky with the invitations and have already gotten a ton of compliments on them. My colors are black and white so it was easy to find that. They are pocket invites and I bought my own sheer hot pink ribbon to wrap around them and add some color.

Well it's sort of DIY-I ordered mirror initials and added some bling to them :)
I will also do my place cards once I have all the RSVP's back
