Spirit Airlines???

Has anyone ever used them??

We booked our flights yesterday through Spirit Airlines. It was the cheapest I could find with the shortest layover(51 minutes- is that too short?!). Now today, the price dropped $100 dollars. I googled to see what would come up about Spirit Airlines and I keep reading horrible reviews about delayed flights, cancelled flights, awful customer service reps, etc. Now I am freaking out since my layover in Ft Lauderdale is only 51 minutes! Has anyone hear ever had any experience with them???

Re: Spirit Airlines???

  • I just seen your post on FB and I was going to reply there but since you posted something here.... We flew through them extremely cheap for a long weekend trip last year. We did have a flight delay, and of course they usually only have 1 plane going that way so unless you want to pay to go through another airline you are stuck. We didn't get any compensation for being stuck in the airport for over 9 hours which was ridiculous.... The flights were not bad for the price, but I now have the philosophy that you get what you pay for and the $40 bucks each way to Tampa was cheap yes, but totally not worth it. Instead of spending 4 days 3 nights in Clearwater.... We ended up only getting 3 days, which we didn't get into Tampa until 9pm so basically was only 3 days... On the flip side I have heard many people who swear by them and have never had a problem. My uncle Dan has flown to FL every couple months to visit family down there and has NEVER had a problem with them and was surprised when I told him about our experience.. Breathe! Hopefully you will have a wonderful experience and no problems.. What day are you flying out?! Are you flying out early to Jamaica so you won't have to stress if you did have a layover? I will be keeping you in my wishes! Your my date twin so your extra special! :-)

  • I should of done my homework and looked them up before I booked but since I was having horrible luck in finding any flight, seeing their flight with such a cheap price was like a dream come true and I just hurried and booked.

Wow, I can't believe they didn't even compensate you!!

We leave on May 20th. Our Flight is scheduled to arrive in FT Lauderdale at 1:38PM and our flight leaving to Jamaica is at 2:30PM. I knew it would be cutting it close but the Spirit terminal is small in FLL so I didn't even think twice about it. I just envisioned us getting off one flight and be about ready to board for the next(which is what I wanted, I didn't wana have a 4 hour layover). Now I am envisioning a nightmare! I am just worried becuz Jamaica has a residency requirement of 2 days and if we miss 1 day then my whole wedding has to be moved! I looked up more airlines and Air Jamaica has a flight leaving out at 4:30PM from FLL on the same day so while I am hoping nothing bad happens, at least I know there is at least one airline that I can try to get on.

So yeah, I am regretting this decision already. I've read some good reviews, like you mentioned your Uncle, but there are more bad than good that I've come across. I am not sure if I should cancel and rebook, which would cost me WAY WAY more than we can afford right now...or just stick it out and pray. I hate to gamble on my wedding day.

Thank you Misty, that is very sweet of you <3
  • I flew on them from DCA to Las Vegas for a b'rette party - wow - someone that was 5 years ago.  We had to transfer somewhere (St. Louis maybe) and we had no problems at all.
  • I def don't think you'll have a problem with your layover or flight. The spirit terminal at FLL airport is pretty small so you'll be fine. I've also flown Spirit to Jamaica and had no problems. Just be prepared to pay for anything you may want to eat or drink, as spirit doesn't give you anything for free.
