RSVP Competition LOL?!

FI has the day off today, and he just called me at work to tell me that we got a bunch of RSVPs in the mail today (yay!).  A bunch of yes's and a couple no's.

Then he tells me that the rib eye steak meal choice that "HE PICKED OUT" is very popular and that no one wants "my lame fish or pasta option" LOL (since I don't eat red meat, he picked out the beef option and I picked out the other 2 options...I'm about 80-90% vegetarian)!  I said um since when did this become a meal choice competition LOL?!?!  His response, you're just jealous that you don't eat red meat and everyone else does.

Just out of curiosity, what would you order at our wedding?  Maybe the Knot can redeem me in this "food choice competition" LOL!

Re: RSVP Competition LOL?!

  • Sorry but I'm Midwest born and raised....so I love steak!  ;)

If it makes you feel any better, we chose a steak and halibut option (IA vs. CA).  So far our only 2 rsvps have been from CA couples, but neither has chosen the steak!  They both have picked the fish and then the veggie option!  I hope Iowa starts representing!  ;)

  • Haha, this is too funny, we're having the EXACT same beef (pun totally intended). We have four options, two vegetarian, a chicken, and a beef. I thought the beef was only okay (it's just a beef tenderloin), and it's winning by leaps and bounds. Meanwhile, one of our vegetarian options (a stuffed portobello-- it's actually a vegan option) has had only TWO people choose it.

FWIW, I voted butternut squash rigatoni, and I'm totally having our other vegetarian option, a pumpkin ravioli, at our wedding! ;)

  • It was a tough choice between sole and beef.  I did pick sole but TBH I usually regret my choice once I get my food at a wedding...

  • I have never had Butternut Squash Rigatoni, but it sounds delicious!!! I don't like to get steak at a wedding venue because I like it cooked a certain way. Last wedding I went to, it was so way undercooked I couldn't eat it.

  • HAHA!  Thanks for voting ladies!

I don't regret my choices at all...FI is such a meat and potatoes kind of guy and I'm a seafood and veggie lover...opposites attract, right?!  Although, I have gotten him to embrace and actually enjoy some vegetarian meals...he even requests that I make some of them!  We've come a long way from his days of not eating any veggies at all!

  • I picked the sole because I love fish and seafood! Also, I've never really had good plated steaks at a wedding before. FI and I don't eat much red meat, but when we do, we're really picky about it. At weddings, they're usually either a little cold or overdone (if they've been sitting in a warmed oven) but what would you expect if steak has to be served to 100 people at the same time? However, we are having a prime rib carving station at our wedding :P

It all looks incredible, but I love steak - and IOAM - I am one of those awful people that just wants it slapped on the grill, then flipped and I'm happy! I love seafood and fish, but am almost paranoid about the freshness factor, I could never order it for a reception, no matter how tempted I was. Likewise with trying a new food - I've never had buttnernut squash rigatoni. Now I think I would like to...but that isn't where I would branch out to try it!

  • I'm a picky eater so i chose steak because it's the "lesser of 3 evils" so to speak!!  i like my steak almost burned, which is not often done right.  i love fish, but not other seafood and i feel like the sole would be too fishy.  i also can't stand squash!  but thats just me..everyone else likes your menu!!
  • Yeah, I'm the same in terms of fish concerns with a lot of places (you never know how fresh it is, unless you're at a place that's known for good seafood) and beef (no way will I convince them to make it raw enough for me, ha), so that's why I usually go vegetarian or chicken. Plus, I mean, your fish option is spelled out, but for example, fish I feel like can often be accompanied by mango (at least more often than other things), which I'm allergic to, so unless a menu tells me "Fish prepared this way with this", I definitely won't get it. I'm going to a wedding in September where they did just the little drawings of a cow, a fish, a chicken, etc. and I didn't want to bug the bride about allergies so I just went with chicken. FI told me if my chicken has mango and his beef doesn't, we'll switch. ;)

  • I hope our guests aren't too concerned about the quality or freshness of the food at our reception.  Our venue is known to have some of the best food in our area and is definitely way better than the average wedding food.

Although, if it's a venue that I've never been to or if it's a place that I know doesn't have such great food, I tend to stick with the "safer" food choice too.

I'm also having menu cards at each place setting that have the full description of each entree. For example, the crab and shrimp stuffed sole will be listed as:

    Crab and Shrimp Stuffed Sole
    fresh grated horseradish, lemon zest,
    five-grain pilaf, steamed asparagus,
     sauce bavariose

That way if someone has a food allergy, they can spot it before they order.  Also, our venue allows guests to re-order their food choice.  They say that a lot of people don't remember/change their mind anyway, so they are prepared for that.

  • Oh, no, totally, I didn't mean anything about yours in particular! But we all know venues in our town that while lovely for some things aren't necessarily the best at others, and would be where you'd worry. That's all I meant. :)

  • Don't worry Lech...no offense taken.  Just in general I was concerned that guests would be wary to order fish (I know that i typically don't order fish when I'm not familiar with the venue).  But then again, most of our guests are local and know the reputation of our venue.  Those that aren't local know that FI and I are total foodies and would never pick a place with sub part food Wink

  • I'm seeing this in our RSVP's also! We have bistro steak, breaded chicken, and veggie ravioli, they are all VERY good, but something like 3/4 of the people who have responded asked for the steak-i find it somewhat bizarre!
It doesn't have to be perfect to be everything I want!

  • I picked steak...I hate squash..and I'm picky when it comes to seafood. I only eat a few things...I like my steak on the well side. That's the only thing I'd worry about is not having it cook enough that I could eat it. We aren't having options though. Just home cooked pulled pork bbq and the trimmings laid out on a buffet. FI wanted a whole hog and I said no.

I must be the minority...I haven't eaten red meat in over 10 years.  I just don't like it!

I voted steak.  I don't like seafood so that's an automatic no.  Also not a fan of squash.  I love my meat, so gotta stick with that.  :)
