Craigslist photography scams

Hi everyone i have seena couple posts on here that people have gotten their photographer from craiglist.i was just wondering how to spot a scam or a fake. if anyone has had a bad experience doing it thru there. thanx

    We're using craiglist as well. To avoid a scam, we met with her before we booked her, checked her online portfolio, and asked for references.

    Craigslist is a great way to find services, it's just important to ask for things like that to help give background.

    We also used CL. I spent a lot of time looking at the postings and checking out online portfolio's. We meant with her and she offered to do the engagement photo's for free, to make sure we liked her work. So I would suggest meeting with people and seeing what they have to offer you.

    Definitely recommend meeting people.  CL is an awesome way to advertise photography (I advertise mine there myself!)  But just be sure it's legit.  Do not send money before you receive a contract and definitely check their online portfolio.  Be wary of the e-mail addresses too.  If they send you an e-mail and the reply address is different than what they sent from, it is usually a scam too.
