burlap tablecloth?

My wedding is in late October and the reception will be held in a lovely, Tuscan themed restaurant on the Hudson River. Since the restaurant has a rustic vibe and we don't have a specific color scheme (we have a very small wedding party and are going with a general autumnal, harvest theme)  I was thinking of using burlap tablecloths instead of the standard whites. I think they will look lovely, but have some concerns because burlap can be itchy. It also has a natural odor. 

Has anyone encountered burlap tablecloths? Am I crazy for thinking this could be a great idea?

    There are different types of burlap, visit a Joann's fabric store and see what they have. Also - I haven't tried this but you might be able to wash the burlap (actually just get it wet) and dry it with dryer sheets. I don't know that it would work but it might help.

    I think I'd use regular tablecloths (maybe an ivory, beige, brown, or green?), with burlap runners or placemats.  Maybe some small burlap favor bags?

    I agree with the prior poster; the use of a traditional tablecloth with the burlap accents would add a unique look, and make the burlap stand out more.

    As for the odor, you may not even need to wash it (I'd be afraid it would make the odor even more strong). Try it with one piece & see what the results are. You might just be able to run it through the dryer with dryer sheets, a day or two before the wedding.

    If the tables are wood and not ugly you could just do burlap runners and skip tablecloths. If you want to cover up the tables I would definitely go with a dark tablecloth (chocolate, olive, wine) with a burlap runner. it would go with your fall color palette and still have an elegant but rustic feel.

    Be very careful with this. I used to work at Joanns... Burlap is not only itchy, but the fibers tend to come off and float around very easily. Basically, it would end up in the food. However, this may only be true for the by-the-yard fabric. The pictures that catwoman posted may have treated burlap?? I'm not sure if there is such a thing, but I'd definitely research it.

    *random side note: a coworker of mine was so severely allergic to jute (the fiber) that she wasn't able to go in the area of the store where the burlap was kept because she would breathe in fibers and have a severe reaction.

    Yet- I think your idea is great! 
    Also- I'm pretty sure you can't wash/dry burlap.

    My daughter is getting married this October 20th.  She was wanting a rustic & lace type outside wedding.  We found some tablecloths that are made of Hemp material, it looks like burlap, but is softer and easier to work with and is washable.
