Reception music

For the married knotties, what percentage of your music were slow dance songs? For those in the planning stages, how many slow dance songs do you plan to have?

<div>And I have quite a few single friends attending, so I don't want to bring the crowd down. But I also want my parent's friends to enjoy themselves and they like their slow jams<img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /></div>

  • Hi Ladies!  We played mostly fast/hip-hop songs because we wanted everyone dancing.  The DJ played slow songs before H and I entered the reception area.  And when I say slow songs, I really mean Neo-soul artists like Anthony Hamilton, Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild, and some old school hits.  We only had one slow dance where he asked all of the couples to join us on the dance floor.

I honestly don't remember!  We left it up to our DJ to gauge the crowd's demographic and participation, and time the music so that everyone participated.  He's good like that and we'd experienced it first-hand on a couple of different occasions.  He asked a lot of questions up front about what kind of ambiance we wanted to have and what "style" of couple we are in general so that our reception would be a reflection of us and also keep the guests entertained.  We gave him a list of songs just so he would have an idea of what kind of music we like but did not hold him to a specific playlist, other than a few must-play songs that are special to us.  It was less than three weeks ago and, other than the first dance and anniversary dance songs, I really don't remember what or how many slow songs were played.

So yeah, that was a lot of help, huh?  Sorry I couldn't give more tips. Frown

  • We played slow songs during dinner, but after the ques opened the dance floor with their "Atom Dog" hops, it was all line dances (cha slide, etc.), hip-hop, reggage and socca.
  • We didn't have ANY slow songs during the dancing at the reception. The only time anyting slow as being played was during dinner, the father/daughter dance, and the last dance. We did try to have a couples dance right after our first dance.. but it didn't work out that way. Other than that.. the party was JUMPIN.. and there was ALWAYS people on the dance floor.. that's the way we wanted it.
