Emergency Marriage License Question

Do both the bride and groom have to be present together to obtain the license?  (Please say yes.)

Re: Emergency Marriage License Question

  • Call the lisencing office (I know I can't spell). I want to say that you both have to with two forms of identification each.
  • Yes, unless there is some sort of extenuating circumstance, in which case I think you have to get special approval to only have ONE person there.

  • Yes -- exactly what Kristan said.

Not at the subcourthouse in Arlington. I made a special trip to go pick up my SS card and they didn't even ask for it. <div>
</div><div>But yes, I'm about 9% sure that both parties have to be present to apply for a marriage license. You have to fill out a form and they make you both swear that it is correct. Also, you could also hypotheticallly get someones ID's and marry them without their permission/willingness.</div>

  • This is all I could find, but it doesn't say anything about "emergencies"

  • It's terrible--but if she marries him now, she will be legally responsible for all the bills (he has no insurance).  We just don't want her to do something rash without thinking.

<div>Oh, how awful. :(  What a terrible situation to be in... I can't even imagine.  I know you all are concerned and only want her to slow down a bit and think before she makes any decisions.  I will tell you that many cancer centers have plans for people with no insurance.  I know the liver transplant department in the hospital system that I work for has  their own coverage that they provide for patients with no insurance so that they can get the transplant that they desperately need but cannot otherwise afford.  I believe the cancer centers work in the same way.  Financial assistance should be available to him.</div><div>
</div><div>I'm not sure what the cancer diagnosis is, but if there's anything I can do in terms of recommendations for doctors, please feel free to PM me.  Wishing the best for your friend and her FI.</div>

  • Well, just FYI she was able to get the license in Rockwall County.  Thank goodness we have three days....

Thanks Amy.  The news is just not good--he could actually be in the end stages.
