Wedding Ceremonies at the Capital?

Have any of you ever been to one? I have seen some pics of a few and it looks beautiful. Any pros or cons?

I just had my wedding there Saturday.  I posted a vendor review, but overall I was very pleased to have a unique and lovely venue.

In March on a 70 degree day it was VERY warm, so I can't even imagine what it is like when it gets really hot (I've heard they don't keep AC on for pirvate events, but I don't know if that is true).

IMHO, you really need to pay someone to come and handle sound for you because of the echo factor (something you don't have to worry about if you get married in a chapel).  Between renting 60 chairs and hiring a sound person, the "free" venue ended up costing $420, but I didn't feel compelled to add any decorations since the building is so stunning (I'll share pics when I get some).

Since only one entrance is open after hours, if you want to avoid your guests you need to get there pretty early, which worked out okay as we took some preceremony pictures, but it's not exactly a comfortable place to wait.

I was worried that my guests would be put off by the metal detector...I didn't hear any complaints, and I hope that people would have the sense not to complain to me even if they were put off.

Thanks for the reply! Did you get your chairs through the capital or somewhere else? Was your wedding in the day time or evening? TIA!

I also just had my wedding there the 5th of march. I loved it. I recieved soooo many complements...My now hubby said it was neat to watch guests enter because there head just went straight UP to the dome when they walked in.

She is right about the sound. We hired a DJ and the music part was fine, but when the ceremony started...guests had a hard time hearing us and some couldnt hear at all. We had 230 chairs/individuals in there. So when the dj did the pre test you could hear fine but once everybody go in there the sound quickly went down hill.

I also rented the chairs from the capitol ...they were 2.00 each for just plain boring metal folding chairs. I went the extra mile and bought my chair covers and i was sooooo glad i did. It really made it look so elegant in there. I loved it. I really didnt have any decorations besides that. And it look just fine. As the girl before said the "FREE" venue quickly adds up quickly witht he chair rental, and dj. But I wouldnt change it for the world i loved it. it was unique and the guests loved it.

It is true there is no A.C. so please dont have one there during the summer. You and your guests would be MISERABLE. It was a little warm in there at the start of march, but nothing bad.

I also reserved the blue room for a waiting area for the wedding party and that worked out great. A place to sit away from the guests.

I was worried about security and made a big deal about making a guest list making usre all guets put there names down and there guests name on the RSVP and also that they needed their ID's. ... Yeaa.. uhhh nobody had to show their ID for the Rehersal OR the wedding..grrr.... oh well .

Let me know if you have any questions
