Your dress

Is it bad that I'm not all that excited about finding a dress for myself?  I've been planning away with everything else EXCEPT for finding my dress.  My body isn't where I want it to be (I want to lose pounds), but, the thought of trying them on really upsets me.  I went and tried on dresses a few weeks ago and really didn't like how I looked in the dress (the dress was gorgeous, yet I didn't feel gorgeous in it).

My fiancee loves me for who I am, and he loves my shape...it's just me that wants to look a certain way.  Am I the only one who is dealing with this?

Re: Your dress

  • I definitely have those days where I feel like a whale, everybody does. Overall, I'm not ashamed, nor do I feel bad about my size, although I do want to tone up my arms a bit. Nothing wrong with wanting to lose some weight, plus look and feel great in your dress :-)

Also, alterations can do wonders not just for the dress- but can make your body look absolutely awesome. I wouldn't let your dress search drag you down too much, we ALL have body hangups regardless of size.

  • Don't be afraid to try on a dress that you may not like on the hanger because what really matters is how it looks on you. Once you find that dress that flatters you body it makes all the difference.. For me at least it did!

  • I'm only 5'0" so it was very hard to find something that didn't look ridiculous on me.  I would come out of the dressing room and my friends would laugh hysterically. The "waists" of most dresses were just above my crotch, lol.  There's something out there to flatter everyone.  Everyone has their challenge, but I found mine so you can find yours.  I guarantee you, something will make you feel good.
  • We all have parts of our bodies that we don't like.  I have severe scoliosis that not only makes me crooked and short waisted, it also creates deep concavities and concavities in my back.  I have a hard time getting any dress to fit me, let alone look good.  I was nervous about looking for a dress.  There were certainly plenty that looked bad, but I was surprised that there were plenty that looked good too.  Wedding dresses, unlike regular clothes, are meant to cover problem areas.  I kept my mind open to different styles and silhouettes and ended up buying something I would have never picked for myself or ever thought would look good on me.

  • I ended up in a dress that I thought just looked okay online and in the bag. I tried on every style. Once I put the dress on and saw myself in I seriously felt beautiful. I saw how the dress flattered and worked with my body. I didn't want take it off that's when I new I want this. I still tried on more and went back to that dress 30 min later to buy it.
  • ugh, I feel your pain. I've gained 4 sizes since I met FI nd I'm just dreading sending in my sizes for my dress. I have to figure something out b/c I need to get crackin on the dress, but I gotta lose something first.

  • I totally feel your pain. I've already been shopping 3 times! I found a few dresses that I like, but none that I LOVE. I think I'll try again this weekend. Just know that you will find something and, no matter what, you have people in your life who love you for you.

  • Thank you everyone.  I realize we all have certain areas of our bodies we want to cover.  I'm lucky to be blessed with hips and boobs. (sarcasm)  So glad to know I'm not the only one who is somewhat struggling with this part of the wedding planning.  Everything else, I'm excited about and going gung-ho about...then when someone asks me about my dress, my enthusiasm kinda deflates.  LOL.

  • I'm happy with my shape. I'm healthy and where I'm just meant to be with my body. I think my body is beautiful and needs no alteration. However, the wedding dress industry doesn't agree with me. I'm utterly petrified of wedding dress shopping. I'm going on Friday for the first time to a bridal salon and I'm so anxious about it.
