Help! Im having a Louisiana wedding and im an out of town bride!

Hi everyone!

Im having my wedding in New Orleans (Im from St. Louis) and im being asked questions from my fiances family (they are from New Orleans) about different traditions and events that ive never heard of! If anyone knows alot about this stuff, i would be grateful, im kinda new to this stuff!!

1. what exactly is a Second Line? Does everybody do this?

2. what are cake pulls?

3. is there anything special I need to know about a New Orleans Wedding?

    second line is a New Orleans traditions and probably one of the highlights of weddings down here. You hire a brass band and get permits (if out side on the street) and the band leads you and your wedding guests in a second line while you all dance and wave hankies in the air. It's really fun and is usually done after the ceremony or to finish off the reception. You could also do a secondline around the reception room while your band plays tradition New Orleans music.
    Cake pulls are another big tradtion down here. They are silver charms with ribbons embedded into the cake. The ladies, usually your brides maids, stand around your cake and pull the ribbons to get the charms. Each charm has a meaning or fortune, ie. the next to get married, have a baby, etc.
    Both are fun traditions.

    Get a photo booth! It is so much fun and can be used as favors for the guests.

    Ive been to a st louis wedding too, they dont have a gap of time between the ceremony and reception in new orleans like they do in STL...
