Vow Troubles

Is anybody else having these troubles? Let me prelude this by saying I cry at stupid Hallmark commercials.
Smile

I asked my FI if we could write something of our own to say in conjuction with the traditional vows, he was like why? yada yada yada... now he's done and I can't get mine written! LOL

I can't get 2 sentences down on paper before I start tearing upm how the heck am I going to read it on our wedding day!

Re: Vow Troubles

  • I cry at everything too! We are sticking to the traditional vows and I will say as few words as possible otherwise I'll just break down.
    GL!
  • FI and I are writing our own vows, but mixing in the traditional ones as well. I have been working on mine for about a year, but I am still not satisfied with them yet.

I would start coming up with phrases or specific things you want to mention and just jot them down before you start piecing them together. Look online to get some ideas.

  • We are doing the mix of traditional along with our own vows.  FI is a "winger" and thinks he's going to "wing" it on the wedding day...I have to admit he actually really is great at this.  I on the other hand and not and also afraid of the tears coming.  My mom lent me (somethig borrowed) her hankie from her wedding to help!

I have gone one-line to look up vow writing and there is some great stuff out there that helps get the ball rolling.  I would decide on the important things you want to make sure you tell him and then work around that.

This is also why I decided to do traditional vows. I'm going to emotional enough - please tell me what to say and let me repeat it ol

  • I cry at everything too. So we went with the repeat after me option. I will cry either way I'm sure. Here is what I picked:

I, Devra, take you, Christopher, to be my husband,
    my faithful partner in life,
    my constant friend
    and my one true love.
    promise to love you,
    in sickness and in health,
    in plenty and in want,
to stand together in our times of joy and sorrow,
always to be open and honest with you,
for as long as we both shall live

  • dland I like your choice a lot!
  • We were uncomfortable with pooring our hearts out infront of all our guests, plus I was SUPER worried about crying during the ceremony -- our solution: we're exchaning those heart felt words in letters before the ceremony and then doing a scripted service -- I'm hoping this will work! lol.

  • FI is the one that wants to write our own vows...I am ok with that as long as we don't have to do the mushy stuff like "when we met i just knew" or whatever...I just want the vow part.  I looked on the Vows board and man, people can go on, and on, and on.

I plan on doing something short and sweet, but "me" :)
