June 2013 Weddings

I Suck At Being a June 2013 Bride!

I have never been a procrastinator -- I always try to get any projects/planning/work finished asap.  In school I was the huge nerd who would write her essays within a few days of when it was assigned, even if it wasn't due for weeks.

The waiting game is not fun for me!  I have so many ideas and wish I could make centrepieces and bouquets and favours and placecards and try on dreses, and get everything sorted for the big day.  But it's too soon!  :P

Anyone else feel like they have a mile-long to do list running through their brain constantly, even though in reality there is nothing to do for a few months?  Haha  Is this a newly engaged syndrome, or am I going to be a basketcase for another year and a half?!

Re: I Suck At Being a June 2013 Bride!

  • I would go ahead and look at venues now. My date is 6/15/13 and we have already booked our ceremony and reception venues. I also have the photograpgher and dj picked out and deposits are going out at the end of this month. I got my dress on sale last July! My alterations appointment is in March. We are paying for everything ourselves so us having time is really working out!

  • There is no reason why you can't start now. It'll make it easier in the long run (and less stressful!!) We already have our ceremony site, reception venue, dj, photographer, cake, and the men's tuxes ordered. I have my dress narrowed down to 2 and after Friday I will most likely have a deposit put down on it.

My viewpoint is that if we can take our time and get things done now, then we won't have any freakout moments down the road. (*knock on wood*)

  • We have our venue (ceremony & reception at the same location), DJ, and are in the process of searching for an officiant :)  So I'm started on the big things...  I just want to get the little things out of the way! hehe  I find DIY projects so fun and am just being impatient :P

  • We have started a bit, venue for ceremony and reception booked (we had to, they have 8 other weddings booked for June 2013 already!) We have a meeting with a potential officiant in a few weeks, and a tasting with a caterer this month too.  My feeling is if I can slowly start checking things out and getting stuff done, I'll enjoy the whole process more.  My daughter and I bought the stuff for our table numbers (plain wooden frames we're going to paint), one of these days we'll start painting them, but there's no hurry, and I absolutely loooooove that!

  • ...Start now.  As mentioned above, places are booking for June 13 right now, and will only get worse since this is liek prime booking season.  I booked my venue in AUGUST, and only so soon because the May 13 date we wanted was already booked :-( so we chose the next available.

  • Bottom Line: Its not too soon. at all. I booked my venue back in October for 6/22/13 and we got the last available Saturday in June. June is one of the most popular wedding months so things book up very fast. While I personally dont think its necessary to run out and book everything immediately, you should start to plan little by little and start to gather ideas and inspiration for table numbers, linens, centerpieces, etc. I have the venue and ceremony location booked. FI and I want to book our photographer within the next month. after that we want to book a dj. The list goes on and on, but I am taking things slowly.

  • Also- take advantage of the fact that we have a year and four months to go. So far, I have had my first choice of everything and havent been turned away by anyone. It is a great position to be in to be able to book your first choices. Dont wait too long!

  • I know what you mean!

However, it is never too soon to start planning! We have our ceremony site, venue and florist booked. We are meeting with a photographer on Saturday and we know who will be our DJ and will be sending him a deposit by the end of this month.

I'm waiting to do things like buy my dress, bridesmaids dresses and tuxes until later on. I have been so anxious to go dress shopping but I think I am waiting until March/April to start. I have an extremely busy and stressful 2 semesters of school starting in September - May, so I am going to try to get as many things planned this summer as I possibly can!

  • You are so the opposite of me!  I am a procrastinator.  I'd say, it's just fine to start some things ahead, like booking vendors and getting ideas, but it's definitely too soon for some things, obviously!  Be careful putting certain things in stone this far ahead, just in case you change your mind!  That's a lot of why I'm waiting!  Good luck with everthing!!

  • Wow so many brides already have so much done!!  Honestly I would LOVE to have the ceremony AND reception location done but the reception fell through.  All we have right now is the ceremony and about to put the deposit down on the photographer :)

My main things that I wanted to get booked before April of this year is all of the locations and the photographer (since to me that is one of the most important parts of the day)

However, I promised the FI that I wouldn't plan anything else until June of this year, since I need to consitrate on fininishing my undergrad degree, but its SOOO hard!
  • I love having so much time to get things done, and like someone else said it helps payment wise.

We're getting married June 1, 2013, and we've booked the ceremony and reception venues, officiant, ordered the save the dates, and are meeting with a photographer tomorrow. We actually got the only available Saturday night at our reception venue from April through October of 2013! It's crazy

  • I wouldn't worry too much. I can't even book the venue I want until April. They won't book until it's 14 months out. Am I the only one having this problem? Just take my money already.

  • It is never too early!  We are doing a lot of DIY projects so we started early.  We have the ceremony site, reception site, caterer, DJ, Invitation layout (Making pocketfolds ourselves is not a quick task), the wedding dress, centerpieces selected (making shoji lanterns ourselves this summer), escort cards/favors (handpainting mini folded fans, have the fans and will paint this spring).

Plus, having this extra time allows for the oppertunity to hunt around and make sure you are getting the best deal!  Also, venues and photographers book out over a year in advance so it is never too early to look into those.

</div><div>Hi I clicked on the wrong board and I saw your heading and my brain went WTH?? But anyway I'm a June 2012 bride and I will tell you this, start whatever you can right now. I booked my cermony/reception venue Dec 2010, yep I said Dec 2010 because I had to change my date to June 2012 due to the fact nice places book up very quickly. I went to visit my venue in Oct 2010 for a July 2011 wedding and when I arrive that evening the secretary told me that they book my date that morning to another couple so I was cool and I asked about any other availabe dates and she told me they were booked up all of June and July and the begining of August of 2011 and my mouth hit the floor so it took me 2 months to decide(alot of whinning and fussing) to push my date back to June 2012. And I will tell you time flies!!! I remember me and MOH laughed that I booked my venue so early now I'm so glad I did because I didn't have to look for anything else after. I booked my photographer in July 2011, I got my wedding cake book in Sept 2011. I changed my wedding colors several times(you will probably change your mind on alot of stuff too)but if you need any help or some suggestions PM me. June 2013 isn't that far off ladies!!

  • I thank school for keeping my grounded right now. I just got engaged over winter break right before this LAST EVER semester of school Laughing YAY!
But while I was home I did book the ceremony site, reception site, cake, DJ, and a harpist (we already knew him..i'm not nuts lol). Plus I got to go to a bridal show and hook up with some of the best decorators, florists, etc. and got their contact info. I feel on top of a lot..but that's just barely the tip of the iceberg. Right now I am going stir crazy while student teaching. All I want to do is plan this wedding!!!!
But, Jason and I are both in our last semesters of school so this summer I plan on taking this wedding to a whole new level! So EXCITED!

  • The catering hall i wanted did not have alot of dates left for june 2013.. So we picked from the dates they had left and booked right away.. That is all we have booked so far.. We will start booking everything else in april/ may... There is still plenty of time...
  • I got engaged in May and my mind has been on full speed ahead ever since.  I say start now.  DIY projects can keep you busy.  The great thing about that is if you make them and don't like them, you have plenty of time to find another alternative.
