Over whelmed!!!

So we have decided to get married Jan 2013 and have to pay for everything ourselves. I would love to know if anyone has any ideas on some venues that aren't over the top in price . I also was looking for something a little different then just a banquet hall . Like maybe a historic bed and breakfast. Any suggestions??!!!

<div>How many guests are you expecting? Cutting your guest list is probably the #1 way to save money. The number of guests will also determine what type of venue to look for. Are you in Philly or the burbs?</div>

  • The Moshulu is really nice and unique, maybe since January is off season maybe they will discount their prices more. They were willing to work with our budget. Can you give us an idea of how many guests you are looking to invite?

  • So my list has about 130 on it expecting that they r all not going to be able to attend. I am pretty open to any location either Philly or the burbs depending on price and the venue. I have alot of out of state guest so that's why I was thinking a bed and breakfast maybe something in the poconos or old city.
  • The Joseph Ambler Inn is really cute and it is reasonable for a smaller guest list. I would check it out!  Its in the burbs..

  • Poconos and Olde City are both going to be pricey.  Especially Olde City.

I ditto jessa.  As hard as it is, the best way to cut down on cost is cutting the guest list.  And even though you think most of your guests won't come, you can to plan on all of them coming. Because if you can only afford 100, and you're pretty sure 30 can't come, and you invite all 130... and all 130 come... you're screwed.

What budget are you looking for?  Keep in mind that a lot of venues' price pp doesn't include tax and gratuity.  Some do... and that's the first question you should ask.  Does this price include tax and gratuity?  Because if it doesn't... expect to add on at least 21% to that price.

  • I think some of the NJ shore locations may be a bit cheaper in January than the poconos. FI got me a B+B weekend down their for Christmas and the prices for that are significantly lower, so I am guessing weddings may be as well.

Doing beer and wine only seems to help a little bit.

We wanted something a bit unique as well and just decided over the weekend to book Corinthian Yacht Club. We are also inviting about 130, but assuming about 100 people. 100 is really about the max you can fit comfortablely, but we can deal with it being a bit cramped. We picked a May date and were quoted at $102pp inculding ceremony, tax, gratuity, ect, which seemed like alot less than many places once you start to add all of that up. We did cut to just doing wine and beer though.

Also maybe check out places where you can bring your own caterer. IMy friend used Birchtree Catering and they did a great job at $45pp  for buffet + the rental costs for their venue and stuff.

  • The William Penn Inn is a nice place. We're having our reception there. They know weddings.

The Day time reception is reasonable, They include the food, cake, flowers and options.
We were going to do the day time reception, but, my fiance wanted the night time reception,,,,

  • I am getting married at the merion tribute house right near lower merion. The venue rental is discounted in january and one of the caterers start at around 45 per person. I'm having 130 people for my wedding also. The place is gorgeous and unique. A historic mansion type feel. Also we are paying for the wedding ourselves as well so I Ian relate to trying to stay in budget.
