Walking down the asile....

So, it appears I will be walking down the aisle in silence. My venue can't amplify sound out to the porch where the ceremony will be. This isn't neccessarily a long walk, but it's not a short one either. It's also a wood porch, so all I am hearing is my heels on the wood. I spoke with FI about this last night and he sees this as a "minor detail" and doesn't think it matters. It doesn't matter to him, but I am upset by this, because it matters to me. I don't know what to do. Do you think it will be awkward and weird to not have some kind of music as I walk the aisle? My SIL didn't have music, but she got married on the beach and, ya, it was kinda quiet. And her walk was much shorter than mine.

Is anyone else not having music?

This is the aisle I will walk down. Not sure how the chairs will be set up yet

Re: Walking down the asile....

  • Is there any way to bring something portable out for music?  If they would allow that, you could put your processional music on an iPod and use something like a Bose docking station for it and it would sound good for what you are wanting.  I know I would want some music because even though I know everyone will be watching me, having the music to "distract" them (and me) just a little is an absolute for me.  HA
  • What about a small amp or speaker and an iPod? They are fairly inexpensive to rent or buy. Or you could have someone sing accapella. I'd probably want to have something playing.

  • Getting a portable sound system shouldn't be that big of a deal- We're getting a PA system (amp and two speakers with a mic) for $50. But a docking station would work just as well.

I'm with you- I would NOT want to walk down the aisle in silence. I think it would be super awkward.

  • If you put a fabric runner down it might muffle the taps of your heels on the wood a bit (with non slip stuff on the bottom, of course, so it doesn't slide).
  • I have had my walking down the aisle song picked out for like 6 years, so no music would have been a deal breaker for me. I agree with PP - I would rent a small PA system so that you could have music out there. If you're having a DJ, you could ask him if his company has a smaller PA or amp you could rent through them to make things a little easier.

This...An IPOD with a speaker, or a portable cd player...while not ideal, Is a cheap, easy way to provide some music.

  • I think the iPod idea with speakers would be perfect.

  • I agree, you need something.  Even if its just an iPod with a cheap docking station/speakers.

Another idea (if you have an ipod or any MP3 player) is computer speakers.  If you have computer speakers, usually the cord fits into the ipod and works great.  My FI does this for the garage when he's working out there and it gets really loud.

    Good luck!!

  • I agree with PPs...this is also where you could have live music if you wanted? maybe someone playing a piano keyboard or something, if there is room for them in an area of the porch? just a thought that popped into my head as I was reading this
  • How about acoustic guitar?
