How photographers vs how many videographers?

Hello ladies! I am wondering your thoughts on this. I am trying to decide if I need two photographers or two videographers OR one of each. I have thought that having 2 photographers would be great to caputre more moments but is one just as good? And as for videography, two would be great for the ceremony especially, however, not sure about needing two for the reception. I know I definitely DON'T need two of each. OR maybe I will great shots from just having one of each to save on the costs if it's not worth it. Let me know your thoughts and experiences. Thanks! :)

  • Both my photog and videographer said he prefer 1 of the other to avoid getting eachother in shots. That being said, my videographer is using multiple cameras to capture different angles. If I HAD to choose, I would do 2 photogs

I'm not so good with the advice... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?

  • We had two photographers (no video) and I can't imagine getting some of the shots at our church without two photographers.
  • Many photographers bring a second shooter along for the reasons mentioned above -- catching all those angles.

Also, if you are going to want pictures pre-ceremony, keep in mind that one photographer can't capture you getting ready, your groom getting ready, and guests coming in all by himself.  A second shooter would just help you maximize the photos you're going to have of your day.

It's kind of the same for video.  Our videographer works with his fiance, and she stayed with the girls the morning of the wedding while he shot the guys.  It's a little easier because a videographer can just set a camera up and leave it running.  It definitely depends on who you go with.

  • I think if you can afford to have 2 photographers and 2 videographers you should.

They are two different mediums and each one needs to the different angles and people can't be in two places at once.

Think about it, one can be with you getting ready, the other with the guys.  If your church as a balcony one can be up there, while the other down below.  One can do formals while the other can take pictures of your decor at the reception site.  If you only had 1 photographer/videographer there could be a lot you would be missing.
  • Ditto to professorscience - we had 2 photographers and 2 videographers.

This.  2 photographers was a must for me.  I didn't have video--and although I regret not getting the ceremony, I don't know that I would have cared about getting video of the reception since my 2 photographers got everything I needed and then some.  So maybe that could be a possibility:  2 photographers and get your ceremony only on video.

Ditto professorscience and winechic. I am having two photographers and two videographers throughout the whole day- getting ready, ceremony, and reception. For the reception, I would love to have different angles of the speeches, the garter/bouquet toss, and  the dances. This is just me though, photography and videography were the two things that mattered most to us. Our food and venue- not as important to us. Also, a lot of our family is OOT, and some won't make it, so it will be great to share everything with them.
On the being in shot thing- even if someone was in the shot, surely they aren't the focus. It is going to happen- I would rather a moment be captured and someone be in the shot than the moment not get captured at all.
  • I would use one vendor, and then ask each of them to bring a second shooter.

  • I will note that I went to one wedding with two photographers and two videographers and it felt like there where 1 too many. If you are in a small space I recommend 2 for the getting ready and ceremony, but then you only need 1 of each for the recelption.

  • For those of you whom had a videographer, do you mind giving me the name of the vendor? I have in communication with Cherished Traditions Videography (Juliet Films) but that's it. I would like to talk to more and see who has the best deal.
