Flower POLL: what are you using? Sept flower HELP!

Hi ladies :)

I am actually a Sept 2013 bride (yay!) but am trying to get a good idea of what I want before I start contacting florists and things start getting crazy (we have...ready for it...11 weddings from Jan 2013 until ours (9-21-13).  And not just random friends/family...both of our best friends, closest cousins and a sibling are all getting married!)

My question is...what kind of flowers are you using?  I am in absolute LOVE with peonies, which I know can be pretty out of the question for fall, but looking for other big fluffy flowers to give the same look.

Ready...set..GO!

  • Dahlias and lily are in season. We are doing those and wildflower mixes from the farmers market.

  • Hydrangeas and Garden Roses are two reasonably in-season options that will give you that same gorgeous, lush look as peonies.

Bonus for Hydrangeas: just a few stems makes a whole boquet- see pic-

We're doing blue hydrangeas and white roses with very little greenery except for a little rosemary (we love to cook) and some lemon leaves.

Gather pictures of what you like before you go, even if it isn't possible for them to get that type of flower, the florist should know of other things that look similar.  I also wanted peonies, but my wedding is during the 2 weeks of the year my florist cannot get them.  She's subbing in other things that are similar, no clue of the names though, she would hand me a picture and say do you like this and I would yes or no it.
  • I'm using white hydrangeas, lime green button mums and wine colored daisies with white tips.  These are the flowers (very loosely gathered, and not assembled, but you get the idea).

  • Orange Roses, orange lillies and wildflowers!
  • Hey!  How fun to find a Sept 2013 bride!  I used to lurk on 9/11 every once in a while.  My biggest suggestion is to bring pictures of what you like to your floral appointments.  We are going for a lush fall theme (red damask table cloths, fall flowers) and we are using dahlias, roses, spray roses, mokara orchids, mini green hydrangeas, and hypericum berries at the reception.  The ceremony is completely white.  My bouquet wiill be roses and mini calla lillies.

  • I wanted anemones but they aren't in season.  I found a florist who was willing to work with real touch flowers (a high quality fake flower).  So I am doing anemones for my girls and the guys and my bouquet will be hydrangeas and a few anemones.  It came out cheaper than real flowers (especially since there is no delivery fee...I am picking them up 2 days before the wedding since they wont die) and we'll be able to keep them forever.
  • I am doing strictly white calla lillies.  We are getting them from Sam's Club as flowers weren't an aspect that I wanted to spend a lot of money on.  They will be simlpe and elegant.

  • hydrangeas, ranunculus, and garden roses. If she can get them, the florist is going to add anemones. If not, delphinium (which is a blue-ish color).

  • The bouquets will be calla lilies and roses. My centerpieces and other floral arrangements are kind of TBD at this point. I was originally going to do everything in calla lilies and roses until I saw the estimate, ha. I'm going to set up another appointment with my florist soon to figure out the specifics.

  • My bouquet is blue hydrangea, green roses, and ivory rananculas.  I love the puffy flower look, too :)
  • Whatever they have at the local grocery store that morning. :-) simple and inexpensive.
