Meeting a Photographer

I'm meeting a photographer with my FMIL on Friday, anything I should bring?

Anything to ask specifically? Tips, advice etc?

Bring pictures that show the "theme" of your wedding. Us photographers are visual people and tend to react well to discussing the overall look of your wedding. Just be careful that you are not asking your photographer to copy said photos or asking them to mimic another photographers style (some photogs will get really offended by this).
Other than that, be prepared with an idea of your budget and the items you would like to have in your package.

    Questions:
-Do they have back up gear (a good photographer should have at least two of everything... just in case)
-What happens if your photographer is sick or injured and is unable to attend your wedding? Do they have quality back up photographers?
-Do you get digital image files? Are they high resolution (hi-res = printable)? Do you get a print release or personal usage license (this allows you to print them)?
(note= do not expect full copyright. pro photogs will not give away their copyrights. if they did, they would not be allowed to use their own images).
-Do they work with an assistant (non-shooting) or a second photog?
-What is their turn around time after the wedding (anything 2-4 is to be expected depending on the time of year your wedding falls. Be weary of anyone that offers the final photos too quickly - they likely are not spending much time editing, or rushing through them. time = quality)

Other than that, just go over what each package includes. Ask to see album and print samples. And ask lots of questions!

    Good luck!
If you have any general photography questions or contract questions after the meeting feel free to message me on here! I'm a pro photog (and soon to be bride) and love to help out other knotties with the photography stuff!

    ciao.

Ask to see photos from an entire wedding/reception.  Everyone puts their few best photos on their website or brochure and the only way to get the real picture is to see them all.

Thank you very much for that list! I'll definitely bring that along.

Also, Raspberry thank you. I've actually seen her entire albums on her website and you can definitely tell which are the "dolled up" ones.

    Wish me luck!
