Adam's Floral Designs? Freaking out!!

Has anyone else used Adam's Floral Designs?  I saw him at the January 2009 Bridalrama, fell in love with his flowers, and booked him in June 2009 for my May 2010 wedding.  I haven't talked to him since, and I just tried to call and the number is disconnected and his website is not available.  I'm going to go home and see if I have a cell phone #, but I'm about to panic.  When we met him he had just set up his own shop, but had been working as a florist for 20 years so I felt ok.  What happens if I can't get in touch with him, do I lose my $250 deposit?

This is scary!!

I'm sure that if you can't get in touch with him you will lose your deposit and may have to take legal action to get it returned. Just my guess.

I have never heard of them, so I am not much help. If you cannot get ahold of him contact the BBB- atleast they will make a mark on the business record and you could have just lost the 250 in deposit. Good luck! I would suggest you find another florist as soon as possible if they are not returning calls. That is the last thing you want to deal with around the time of the wedding.

I meet with Adam last year re:flowers for my May 2010 wedding. He did the flowers for my futuer sis-in-laws wedding, as well as several of her friends. While they all had excellent experiences and loved his work, I felt he was incredibly disorganized and a terrible business man. I'm sorry this has happened to you- it appears maybe his poor business practices have caught up with him. Have you tried going by his shop on Vine Street?

My florist is Two Little Buds (located at Bridgewater Falls in Fairfield, OH) if you need a rec. Start making some calls, just in case!

um, I just googled it, and his website seems to be debunked also. I would suggest going by the store, but I'm thinking it's time to find someone new. Good luck!

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Do you have his e-mail address? Maybe he actually checks that. Is this it:afdesigns@swohio.twcbc.com?

If you need a new florist, tell them what happened, maybe they'll feel for you and give you a discount. I don't know what the likelihood of that is, but I've heard of that happening with photographers.

Good luck! I hope you can at least get your money back. If you need some florist recs, let us know. I'm using Karen at Abbey Florist.

Thanks everyone...though I would update  you!  I drove by his shop - empty, for rent.  He hasn't answered my email.  He actually lives only a couple blocks from me.  We tried his home phone as listed in the phone book but it's now a hair salon's number.  Then last night I was so made my FI and I went to his house (like I said, only a few minutes from mine).  His daughter answered the door, said he wasn't home.  We asked for a way to contact him and she actually gave us his cell.  We asked about him going out of business, she said he had gotten a new job, but she didn't know where.  So it looks like we are definitely being screwed!  I've already emailed a couple other florists in hopes they can fit me in within my budget.

Nothing like this has ever happened to me, I'm so angry.  Even though it's a small amount, I'm thinking of filing a small claims suit just on principle!

Megzies, my daughter is also using Two Little Buds.  I know she has been very pleased with everything so far.

Sorry to hear that you're going through this.  :(

It definitely sounds like you're getting screwed.  I would start calling other florists ASAP - my first rec would be Katie Elfers (www.katieelfers.com), but if you check out the "Meeting florists" thread below, there are several others listed.

Also, I don't know if a small claims suit would be worth the time and energy (I've had to file one before - it was a pain) but you can try it if you'd like.  I can be kind of (okay, a lot) petty and vindictive when I've been screwed over, so personally, I might try contacting whatever tv station it is that does those exposes* - I think they did one last year on a photographer who was screwing over brides.  I'm sure there are other brides who are in your same situation right now and this might be enough to shame him into giving you your money back.

Sorry again that this has happened, and gl getting everything straightened out.

    * Really wish we had the ability to use accents here - html would be nice to if you're listening "gods."

Thanks for the recs - Katie Elfers doesn't have enough availability to do everything I need for my wedding, but she was really nice and gave me several recommendations of people I could go to.  I really want to get someone booked again ASAP b/c I'm stressing like crazy!

I did make a Better Business Bureau complaint, for whatever good that will do.

You can also look up a persons history at the clerk of courts website.  There is someone under his name (although it might be a different person) who is going through a foreclosure right now.

Duh, I can't believe I didn't think of checking the clerk of courts, I'm an attorney!  Not only is he in foreclosure, but he has a $14,000 judgment against him from ProFlowers, who I assume supplied his flowers, and a judgment from the State of Ohio for income taxes.  Looks like I'm probably the least of his worries!
