Timing on Invitations

I also posted this on the "Invitations" board, but you guys all seem really helpful, so here's my question...
We are having both the ceremony and reception at the same place and are doing a very short ceremony (maybe 15-20 minutes including processional and recessional).  Our cocktail hour starts at 6 PM, so working backwards, I figured we would start the ceremony at 5:30 and put 5 PM on the invitations, but someone said that people will get there early anyway and then will be waiting for almost an hour... so they suggested putting 5:30 on the invitations and start just a few minutes later.  I am unsure what to do... Any advice?!?

Re: Timing on Invitations

  • On my invitation I put 3pm on it. That when it will start, so that way people who get there early won't have to wait even longer then normal. Most people expect wedding to not start on time so if it runs a little late that ok too, but to have people wait over an hour would be a bit much, IMO.

  • Put the actual start time of your ceremony on the invitations.  People are expected to be on time.
