PUNJABI THEME WEDDING QUESTIONS

Hi!!

So im planning my wedding for the month of April, and my fiance is half Punjabi. We are planning a wedding on a budget and would really like to incorporate his culture in the event!! I was thinking of changing into a saree, I was wondering if i could find a blue/green one since that would be our wedding colors? That me9the bride) could wear. Ive seen alot of red and gold colors but i wasnt ure if i would be allowed to wear a blue/green one? We also want to do alot of punjabi music during the reception, any best music, crowd pleasers? Also, are there any other ideas that i could add in to our wedding day that represents the punjabi culture?! thank you so much for your help :)

My FI is also half punjabi. Depending on where you live you can go to a Sari shop and find plenty of saris in any color. I have even tried on a black one with silver sequines. If you go online you can also check out the different color sari options. some of the best are in blue/gold or teal colors.

Fi and I are planning on playing Indian music as well as giving away traditional Indian sweets as the favor, for the invites we are doing a modern twist of a henna design.

Punjabi food during cocktail hour or the receptions, indian-inspired design on your paper products (invitations, STDs, menus, escort cards, etc.), henna or paisley design on your cake, hiring a dhol player for the reception.

I would discuss sari colors with your FI's parents.  Some indians have specific colors that they don't wear on their wedding day.  But typically blue/green is perfectly fine across the board.  And you can definintely find options at any indian clothing store or online.  Your FI could also wear a kurta/sherwani.  You could have henna done on your hands and feet.

Punjabi colors are open - especially at the reception.  I've been to Punjabi weddings with all sorts of colors - blue, purple, gold...you name it.  That's one of the things about the Punjabi culture that i love...very colorful.  Mine were pink and orange and it had the right level of vibrance that I loved!

We had a great Punjabi DJ (in NJ) - DJ Sukh - who played great music  If you are interested, I can get you the info or you can do a web search.

Another key addition is the dhol - my nephews played these drums throughout the reception and it really added to the ambience!

    Good luck!
