Need Opinion

My FI are trying to decide where we want to go on our HM. Neither of us really see a reason in going out of the states (let me know if you guys feel differently). I just want a beach and shopping and he is just working about the beach.

Also, we are going to leave the Monday after our wedding and go for 7 days. But here is the catch. Our best man and MOH were going to meet up with us on Thursday or Friday and spend the rest of the vacation with us.

Does it really need to just be the 2 of us the whole 7 days, or is it ok for them to meet up with us? And do you think we should go out of the states somewhere?

  • Depending on what time of year your wedding is, the outer banks are a great, more secluded option for a honeymoon. I haven't been there in a few years, but we used to rent a house, usually 5 or 6 houses in from the beach, for $1200/week in Duck, North Carolina. It's fairly quiet (no boardwalk or anything), but also very beautiful :)

[QUOTE]I've lived minutes away from Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota, FLs since I was little and from what you've described it might be a great place to look into. http://www.sarasotafl.org/siesta-key/?gclid=CNKDo8qOgq0CFRFV7Aod9WETSw It was rated the #1 beach in the US (you should read about the sand here it sounds silly but its seriously amazing) There is St. Armand's Circle with GREAT shops, we're 30min away from the Ellenton Outlets, theres "The Village" right on the key, with the best resturants, and its great at night with live bands at almost every resturaunt. You also have Lakewood Ranch which has shopping options, its a really great vacation spot. Its also only 45 minutes from Tampa, and 4 hours from Orlando, so you're not super close but if you wanted to make a trip up that way it would be totaly do-able. :)

I love Siesta Key! We vacationed here every year when I was little because my grandparents have a condo about 15 minutes away.

The restaurants are also fantastic! The past couple of years that we've gone with our cousins, we've been renting condos at "Our House at the Beach"

  • Siesta looks beautiful from what I can see. What airport would I fly into (if you know) and do you know of any nice places to stay that are on the beach?

Usualy Tampa (TIA) but some times it works out where you can fly into Sarasota/Bradenton (SRQ) for cheaper but that doesn't happen very often. Its a very small airport, like 10 terminals small. There are tons of options if you want to stay on the beach, there is siesta key as well as Lido, and Longboat Key. Anywhere you stay is going to be very nice. I can't think of any off the top of my head, since I've never really had a need for them (since I live here :P) but I know with Seista you can acutally rent houses litterally on the beach or across the street from the beach.

  • I love Siesta Key as well! Some other good options in Florida might be Lovers Key or Sanibel/Captiva.

Depending on your time of year, you might want to check out Hilton Head, SC too!
  • Ooo I went to Hilton Head is very nice! I was there earlier this year for a cousins graduation from the Marines, loved it!

  • This sounds like something that you should decide for yourself, regardless of what other people think. Are you feeling pressured to go to a far away place? It is perfectly fine to take a HM here in the US. Lots os people do. There are a lot of beautiful beaches in Florida, for example, and tons of malls and shopping.

If you really want to meet your friends for a few days, that should be up to you, too. But if you decide that you want your HM to be just you, don't feel bad at all about telling them no. Plan the vacation that you want. Your HM is about the two of you and what you enjoy, not what other people think should be done.

I think that sounds fun! If you're okay with having a 4 day honeymoon and 4 day vacation with your friends all in one trip I say go for it. You have the beginning of your trip as your designated HM time, so I wouldnt worry about what others think of it.

  • I agree that it should be up to the 2 of you to decide. There is absolutely no reason you have to leave the US to have a great time. It appears your wedding is probably the end of August. It is really hot in the southern US then, and while we never know when a hurricane or tropical storm will hit, it is during that season.

We went to California, flew into San Fran, then drove down the Pacific Coast Hwy in a convertible, ended up in San Diego and flew home. You don't have to arrive at one airport and leave from the same airport. If you both like the beach and don't consider it fun to be driving and seeing a lot more in a car, it's ok. But the price is really not that much more if you live near a main hub airport. Plus, there are no hurricanes on the west coast. Every hotel where we stayed was on or near the beach, the weather was fabulous every day, over 14 days we had 20 minutes of rain. Seriously.

Plus, you can tailor your trip to the beach, or touristy things like Hollywood.
