Help Me Prove FSIL Wrong

My FSIL was complaining about struggling to plan her wedding. I asked what she was struggling with and one thing she mentioned was finding someone to marry them. Last time her and I talked ceremony she wanted outside. She never told me if that is what she still wanted. So going off that information...

I know PLENTY of girls on here have gotten married outside and had someone there to do it. So give me a list to give to my FSIL to prove to her that finding someone to marry you is the easy part.

I have a feeling next is going to be reception location (which is going to be a pain because from the sounds of it she wants something nicer that a Union hall, but a place you can bring in your own food and I'm not talking catering, my mom offered to cook all the food for her reception so they have to allow that). But help me prove anything is possible!

ETA: If you know of a church that will marry someone that's not a member, go ahead and list it too. That way I have all bases covered when I give her this list. Innocent

    As far as churches go, I'm 99% sure that my church marries non-members... St. Michael Lutheran Church in Ottawa Lake, MI.

    I know that Glenwood Lutheran Church will marry non-members.  It's right next to the art museum, and is absolutely beautiful inside.

    As far as a reception location, I think you're going to have a hard time finding somewhere that will allow food that is not from a licensed catering service.  Maybe look into the Ward Pavillion at Wildwood?  Or, if she chooses to use a caterer, the Franciscan Center at Lourdes College is a bring in your own caterer place, but has a very different feel from a UAW hall.

    First Presbyterian Church will marry you if you're not a member.  Gorgeous inside.  I checked into it, but they would not marry me on Nov 27 because they would be too busy decorating for Christmas or something.

    What about having someone she is close to get ordained online? My brother is marrying us. It cost a total of $10 (fee to become licensed in Ohio = $10, ordination online = free).

    Abbey: I agree, reception location is going to be very hard to find because most places that let in outside food want it to be from a catering company. I wish her the best of luck in that one.

    Thank you everyone for the suggestions! I've written them all down and plan on giving them to her today. I actually googled "weddings in Toledo" as well and now have a list of 7 officiates and 3 churches. It took me...about half an hour between making large pots of coffee for the breakfast at my hotel.

    She's making planning harder than it has to be. She still has yet to figure out any kind of budget. I love her, but she drives me nuts. Guess I'm learning what a pain I was to my sisters (I'm the youngest in my family, she's the only girl and youngest in her family).

    Most Methodist churches will also marry non-members. There will most likely be a fee for using their church and you may have to either use their pastor or at least have their pastor participate in the ceremony in some way and there will be a fee for the pastor. Every church sets their own fees so it would be good to call a couple in the area where you think they will want the wedding.  Also, at least some of those same pastors would perform the ceremony at a location other than their church but you'd have to ask each of them. Most churches have secretaries on duty, call a couple of churches and ask.

    You didn't mention whether there will be alcohol at the reception. If there won't be alcohol, try calling the various Masonic halls in the area, most of them lease their dining rooms and kitchens (including tables, chairs, ovens, refrigerators, pan, dishes, flatwear, glasses etc) at very reasonable prices. But you won't be able to have alcohol.

    Our church married us and we were non-members:  Lutheran Church of Our Saviour on Alexis. They were wonderful to us and very reasonably priced.

    And everyone above is right about the caterer.  You'll have a very tough time finding a site that will let you bring in someone unlicensed.  I heard a rumor once that Somerset hall at Tremainsville/Douglas/Laskey will let you cook your own food there, but that was almost 2 years ago.

    I am getting married at first presbyterian in maumee. Also -- Wildwood Metropark's Ward pavillion is really nice and you have to bring your own stuff. That is where mine is on Nov 6th. :) Good Luck.

    i am getting married at olander park in sylvania only 550 and you can have your wedding and reception there it is very beautiful. you can bring in your own catering and alcohol. website:

    Millbury Fire Hall has a HUGE kitchen and will let you bring in outside food.  It's huge inside with a large stage.  The only cost is clean-up, pop, and bartenders.  It's inexpensive and the fireman are great to work with and good bartenders.
