Meal choices? So confused

I called my caterer and they told me that I have to indicate the guests' meal of choice on the table or else the waiter won't know which ones to serve who. Can I write them on the guest's escort card or do I have to make another card indicating meal choices?
Where can I write that on the escort card? Should I just put a little V on their card who wants vegetarian dishes?
Help.

  • My friend did little cow/chicken/veggie stickers in the corner of their guest cards. Or you can make the cards different colors. I would do it on the card and not make it separate.
  • Lurker here- but I'm putting it on the back of my escort cards. So they are tented cards, on the front is their name and table number. And the back of the tent is Fish, Chicken, etc. Not the cutest thing, but it works. I've seen people color code too- so they have 2 colors of seating cards- one is pink for steak, green for chicken. So on, so forth...

I am doing a little stamp of cow, chicken or veggie.  I would just worry with putting it on the back whether the wait staff will be able to see it, or if they will just have to ask everyone anyway.

How will the servers see if if it's on the back?  Go to every seat and flip them over?  I'd make it a bit more obvious than that to ensure faster service.  I like stickers or color-coding.

I'm hoping it'll be visible- it's just the other tented side, so it'd be visible just like the names. But I'll try a few out and see- the stamp may be a better choice and cuter!

Oh, I think I see.  I was imagining it with the fold on the top.  You mean like a greeting card with the fold in the middle?

Thank you! I like the color coordinated idea. I only have one flat sheet sticking on a wine cork (DIY). There's really no room on the escort card to spell out the whole thing so if I do colors with C= Chicken M= Mushroom Wellington V= Vegan Pasta K= Kids. Does that work?

What if I put a Mr. & Mrs. together on the escort card?
    C& M?

No that is exactly what I was imagining at first.  I didn't think you'd write it on the inside. So I guess I still don't see how the servers will see the meal choices on the back. I'd still mark the meal choice on the front with the names.  Those are cute though.

I'm doing the corks too.  I think it would be fine to have a small initial on the top instead of a sticker or stamp.

The tables are long ones so the servers will be on both sides... I'm kind of hoping they would see that from the other side and then know where to put food. Buuut I guess that is true, I should probably just do color coded ink for the names or stamps on the front, it would make more sense!

As for the corks- my friend had that, and hole punched each card on the side and put a color coded ribbon in it- for decoration and meal choice

Mine will be a lot like these, but with stars instead of flowers. The stars will be color-coded, and the servers will have the code. Purple stars = chicken. Blue stars = fish. Silver = vegetarian. E.T. = kids. (Our reception is at a planetarium.)
  • We had tented place cards/escort cards as well.  We punched holes across the top of one side and ran a ribbon through.  Blue ribbons were beef, silver were chicken, purple were vegetarian.  We did three mock up place cards for our venue just so there was no misunderstanding and gave it to our manager at our final meeting.

  • We were considering doing color-coded cards.

  • Mine looked just like the picture above with the die-cut flowers on the escort cards, but the flowers were color-coded, so filet mignon had a blue flower, salmon had a gold flower, vegetarians had a white flower and kids had a butterfly.  That way they still fit with my color theme but were easy for the service staff.
  • We are using color coded stickers for ours.  Blue = beef, yellow = chicken, silver = vegetarian, smiley face = kids.

We bought a stamp that had kind of a silhouette of a bride and groom. We stamped that on the front of the card after the name black ink for beef, red for chicken. For the handful of little kids and vegetarians, H drew a cute little cartoon baby or tomato with a smiling face. ETA ... I think we also gave the venue a seating chart ahead of time, or at least a list of how many of each meal at each table.
