How much did your cake cost?

My reception venue includes the cake in their price per head.  If I don't use their baker, I will get $4 taken off of the PPH, so If I have 100 guests, spending $300 or less on the cake, delivery, and associated fees is $100 more for the wedding budget, and so on.

I just wanted to see what a 'normal' price was for a cake in the Northern VA area.  How much did yours cost and how many did it feed?

Can I get a reasonably nice cake for a lot less than they are charging?  Or should I just save myself the hassle and go in-house?

I agree. We went with Cakes by Linda, and she starts cheaper, but the design we wanted is $7.50/pp - although she currently has a 30% off discount coupon on her site and we also got another 10% off for my dad being military.

Our site includes the cake also, but if we don't use them we only get $200 off, so we're adding cupcakes and a groom's cake instead - which are worth more than the kickback.

[QUOTE] I think the deal you're getting with your venue is pretty good as I wasn't able to find anything cheaper.

That's what I assumed.  I feel like the contracted baker has less options than I want, but I think finding a baker with more options is going to cost more.

    Thanks for the input, guys!

My cake fed 150 and cost $500, which included delivery and everything.  I used Sweet Thing Black Orchid.

Can you ask your venue if they will allow you to work with another bakery if the cost is relatively the same?

Although the contracted baker has less options, have to thought about personalizing the cake more with a cake topper or flowers of your choice?

We are using Fluffy Though Cakes its $5.00 a person. It is seriously the best cake I have ever tasted and Lara is great to work with. She makes you a top layer of your cake for free on your one year because she said it taste terrible if you freeze it! She is in McLean!
    Happy... that is all!
