Catholic Weddings

uh oh

revisited

I posted two weeks ago about a gay couple (male) who was married here with a Roman Catholic priest as co officiant.  A couple of you ladies said you were hoping that was a mis print or something more to the story.

Just read on The Deacons Bench (patheos site) that the priest was formally reprimanded by his bishop and that it would be kept in his active files but that's it.  It WAS his cousin's wedding so I do understand why he would feel pressure to assist.  But he shouldn't have done it.  He was not vested but was wearing the roman collar.  Dead giveaway guy!  Smarten up, mmmk?

Re: uh oh

  • I think I heard about this.
  • Hey MissySue! Haven't seen you in a long time!
  • Awkward!  I think the bishop took a good disciplinary approach... anything harsher would have probably caused an uproar!

VERY awkward as having your wedding announcement in the New York Times is considered rather a big deal here.  Harsher treatment would have just made more publicity.

(see, we only have that one paper for wedding announcements unless you're a celebrity or somehow imfamous, lol)  M made it because she was out of CSH and a lifetime NYCer)
