Winter 2012 Wedding Advice Needed

Hi!
I'm planning on having a wedding this December because we are planning a baby for next year (I know we can't control when we have a baby, but I should clarify by saying that we will start trying by the start of the year Laughing). The Groom and I have always dreamed of an outdoor wedding, but with the need to try sooner than we planned, I only see December as an option. I am looking for some cool things to do, have, etc at the reception, ceremony and/or the groom's dinner before that make a winter wedding unique. Looking for any suggestions that will help me plead my case to the groom Wink. Thanks in advance!

P.s... we live up in Northern Minnesota (options for locations are up on the Iron Range, Duluth, or up the North Shore)

Giants Ridge in Biwabik is a pretty neat place to have a wedding. So I've heard, I've never actually been to a wedding there. There would be some good options for a few outdoor pictures near the buildings, anyway.

Where are you from? I went to school in Virginia.

ETA: Do you know approx how many guests you'll have? A budget you'd like to stay within?

Do a bonfire with s'mores or a Hot chocolate/hot apple cider bar or use that stuff as favors if you choose to have them.  Maybe have a couple snowshoes at the groom's dinner for people to try

We had cute faux fur boleros and my cousin had a gorgeous white faux fur cape at her winter wedding

  • I had a January wedding and people really liked the 'comfort food' style of options since it was cold outside. We had a mashed potato bar and beef tenderloin, and people loved it. Also, you and your BMs could get little faux fur shawls, they make for super cute pictures. :)

  • There was a bride on this board about 2-3 years ago who had a winter wedding, and she had wonderful decor and accessories that all had winter themes. And the Knot did an interview with her on Knot tv, I believe. Does anybody remember her name? It would be great if you could look at her bio for ideas.
  • We had a January wedding.  I did large branches as centerpieces and spray painted gold.  I also went with lanterns every where in the church and down the aisle that I bought at Ikea.  I served hot chocolate during the cocktail hour.  Winter weddings are fun!
