Hi CharleyB! It was good; I misunderstood when I set up the appt; you guys were right, no food but they were nice enough to ask if we were hungry for cheese or anything, which was nice! One of the  owners belongs to our Greek church so we know him well and he was excited to show us that he found Greek imported water (our parents loved that!) Anyway, pretty standard...we finalized the menu and stations, discussed arrival times, did a linen selection...that kind of stuff...they are so incredibly nice there. We are working with Cathy who is  doll and a half.
Let me know if you have any other questions; did you go for your first tasting yet?

Not yet. Our tasting is scheduled for Sept 29. I'm looking forward to it. When is your wedding?  What did you end up picking for your meal and the linens? What's your room? - I know a million questions...I love having other girls using the same venue. Especially because I sometimes feel out of the loop with my coordinator. I keep debating asking for a switch.

Sorry to jump in here, but I recognized your names as Merion girls. I feel totally out of the loop with Stephanie, my coordinator.  I'm lucky if she even emails or calls me back without me having to contact her several times.  It's really annoying considering the amount of money we are paying.

I had my tasting in July, and my wedding is November 6.  Next month I have a meeting to finalize the menu and all that.

Hey Lisa! I am getting married the week after you, November 13th...I work with Cathy. She is great! She is really nice and always seems happy to hear from me, even if I call her twice in one week...I like her very much.
Charley, For now we picked white tablecloths and black napkins but Cathy said we could always change our mind when we drop our stuff off the Monday before our wedding. We are in the Skylight Ballroom, which we love but I wonder if I should be nervous because our guest list somehow sky rocketed to 280! Cathy told me not to worry as they have had weddings there for 300 plus and she doubts I will have more than 250...Let's see what else?? Oh, we picked Avgolemono soup (it is a greek soup and we are Greek so it makes sense...it is my favorite soup in the whole world), the merion salad, and our entrees are Athenian Chicken, Sea Bass Vera Cruz, and Grilled Filet Mignon with Crabmeat...all were awesome!
I feel bad about your coordinator. Have you spoken to Cliff about it? He seems great and I am sure he could help you out and switch you or at least talk to your coordinator because they obviously want their brides to be happy!

What hotels are you guys using?

Oh and just an FYI, I have actually been to a wedding at the Merion when it first opened and it was awesome from what I can remember (I was a little drunk so I had a blast). Food was great!

    Hey Marian!
I wish I had Cathy!  I had Adrienne originally, but she left. If things get worse, I'll talk to Cliff. If I wait longer than 2 weeks for a response from her, I email him and he calls me almost immediately! He's great.
The room you're in is HUGE - I wouldn't be worried about the size of your guest list. You have all the extra room in the cocktail hour area too, by the bar. I was at a wedding there in December, and it was fantastic!  Lots of people (men mostly) used that cocktail area all night.  Your menu looks great too! We went with Chilean sea bass, filet mignon, and chicken franchaise.  I haven't picked a soup yet - I wish we could try them first!

I'm using the Marriott, but I think it was a bad move - no free shuttle like some other ones, and they want me to give them a final count for the brunch beforehand, and I can hardly give them a guess!

Thanks Lisa! Yeah the room size is one of the only things I am worried about as my Dad keeps inviting everybody he knows (which he has every right to do as he is paying for it) and when I go in there for meetings, it is always set up for 150 people and it looks fairly full...My fiancee tells me to chill out that they do this for a living at the Merion and know what they are doing...how many people were at the wedding you went to in December approximately? The wedding I went to was 225 I think and seemed roomy enough...
Yes, Cliff is the best! Two weeks is way to long for a response! Like I said, they are in the business to make you happy on your day and everything leading up to that day so if it continues, definitely talk to Cliff

We booked the Wyndham for our guests because of the shuttle, location, and the pricing. I also visited the hotel and the staff was very nice and the hotel rooms looked good. (we aren't staying there but it is very nice)

I have been debating talking to Cliff or Vinny about the whole coordinator situation but I haven't yet. Partially because I think that a lot of the Merion brides on here with different coordinators seem to be experiencing the same thing. So now I am feeling like there may be no point. But I know they do an amazing job the day of and everything will be fine...I just had a very different experience the first time I worked with them (I acted as the planner for my brothers wedding 2 yrs ago at the Merion) and was a little surprised with this time around. But thus far they haven't missed anything big...she's just not as responsive as I would like.

I think I may just copy Cliff or Vinny on my time sensitive emails. That may get me quicker responses...

And don't worry about the room size...I'm sure they will make it work. I know how you feel though...but they really do a great job of fitting everyone in there. I'm sure they'd tell you if it was just too many people.

I think my coordinator must have ESP bc she emailed me back today!  I think the wedding I went to had a little over 200, and I thought there was PLENTY of room.  The cocktail hour was a little closer, but there was still a lot of room, and no one had any problems getting a drink at the bar or getting to the stations.  I really think you will be totally fine.  The tables had a lot of space between them when I went, so I could definitely see a lot more tables in there than the one I was at.  The dancefloor is huge, so that should be great too.
