paying vendors

Sooo now that we've got our venue booked, its time for us to start looking at and booking vendors. Even though our wedding is a year and a half away we want to get things booked and paid, so that there is less stress closer t the date. Now my question is, would it be a bad idea to pay our vendors in full when booking them so far in advance? Has anyone else done this, or is thinking of doing this?

Re: paying vendors

  • The typical practice is to pay a percentage such as 50% at time of booking and the remaining amount either on the day of the wedding or a week or so before.  Your vendors will have contracts which outline their payment structure.  I would not pay a vendor 100% this far out. I would just pay the minimum amount to secure their services.
  • Ditto PP.  In this economic environment I would not be comfortable paying 100% upfront.  Plus I would prefer to invest the money in the short term.
  • Thanks ladies for the advice! I appreciate it! I guess it doesn't make sense to pay it all in full!

  • I had also considered this, so I woulnd't have to worry about payments closer to the date.
However, i decided to instead open a new savings account. We actually did one at citizens that offers rewards for saving certain amounts (a $25 gas card, or something like that when you reach your goal) Its called goal track.

Anyway- we put hte money in there so we are earning rewrards and interest on our money.
Then we are thinking abotu 60 days out we will pay people off so we don't ahve to worry abotu doing it so close to the date.

  • I put deposits down when they were due (usually at the time you sign a contract and officially book a vendor).  Then, we paid the vendors according to the contracts - some (like the venue) needed further payments at 6 months and 3 months prior and then the balance due that day.  Others, we paid off a month or so before the wedding.  There were a few we paid on the day of the wedding as well and our DOCs delivered the envelopes to them.
