FIRST CHECK - Church and venue booked!

I finally completed my first task - we booked our church and venue today! :-)  St Mary of the Mount church on Mt Washington and the Pittsburgh Opera House.  June 23, 2012.  Good news is that I was able to get the date that I wanted.  Bad news is that only the 1pm ceremony slot was open, the 3pm slot was booked already.  I really didn't want to have it so early, but every Saturday 3pm slot was completely booked from April-August!  Who would have thought they'd be booked solid 14 months in advance?!   So our reception will now have to start at 3pm instead of 5.  Hopefully it won't be too big of a deal.  Is anyone else doing an earlier reception?  We're doing a full dinner buffet, so hopefully people won't mind eating dinner that early?

    Hey,
    Congrats!
We are having our ceremony at 1230. Didn't want it that early either, but it was the only day/time they had left when we booked Heinz Chapel and I really wanted to get married there. Our reception starts at 4 pm and we have a buffet too. I say it will be fine because it is my wedding and that's how it is. If my guests dont' like it tough sh*t. haha that's how I feel. Don't worry about anyone else. Do what you want, it's your day!

Lol that's a very good point!  I love Heinz Chapel!!  How is your reception starting at 4 though if the ceremony is at 12:30?  What are you doing in between?  I figured that the ceremony would be an hour or less, so it will be done by 2pm.  Then it's only a 10-15 minute drive for guests to get from the church to the reception, so I was thinking 3pm was the latest it could start?

A, I was actually just wondering if you picked the Opera House or the b and b on the north side...is that weird?  Congrats on the checks though...such a huge relief I'm sure.

MRads - You're right, it is a HUGE relief!  It was reaaalllly hard to pick between the Opera House and the Parador Inn.  I loved the inn, but logistics wise it was just too hard to have to put half of the reception inside and half of it outside.  If I'd have had a smaller guest list, like under 100 people, it would have been absolutely perfect.  At first I had a really hard time accepting that I couldn't use the inn... it actually resulted in a few arguments with my mom because she hated the inn and thought it was run down and ugly.  Lol.  But now that I've dealt with it and moved on, I'm really really excited about the Opera House!  :-)   Still a little worried about the ceremony being so early because 1. we aren't allowed into the Opera House to set up until 10am!  2.  I wanted to do a first look and a lot of the pictures before the ceremony, so it might be hard to fit it all in now.  But I'm sure it will all come together in the end!   At least I hope so!!

well the ceremony is until 130 and the boat starts loading at 330 for cocktail hour and takes off at 4. with traffic i expect 30 min from church to reception. that leaves guests with 1 1/2 hr break to either go to hotel and freshen up , have a few drinks at station square, or do whatever. personally i dont care because that gives me 1 and 1/2 hours or so to get my pictures done. I don't wanna rush with the pictures so that leaves me plenty of time. I've been to several weddings this year that have had littlt breaks in between. it's nice when you are out of town to go back to the hotel and freshen up, plus you get to catch up with people that you haven't seen in a while. im not worried about them finding things to do. they'll be fine.
