Florida Honeymoon - September or October?

Hi everyone!

My FI and I are planning a honeymoon to Orlando, Florida and we are debating between the months of September and October.  I realize this is during hurricane season, and I was just wondering if anyone had a suggestion as to one month over the other?

Our plans include (but these aren't all of them): Universal Studios (theme park, Islands of Adventure), Discovery Cove, Aquatica, and likely a trip to the coast for a beach day (weather permitting).

We are from Minnesota so Florida should be warm to us in either month, but we just are hoping for a not super rainy honeymoon.

If you have any opinions related to the weather in Florida during those months feel free to post (as well as additional places to visit in Orlando), however please do not post if you are going to tell us this "isn't honeymoonish enough"!  We had a long discussion and chose to go to Florida because we want to, and it is within our budget.

  • This is plenty honeymoon enough! I'm from Orlando originally and visit multiple times a year. Feel free to PM me for suggestions of stuff to do. I don't want to list it all out, because you might not come back to read it.

Either month will be great. It's going to be slightly cooler in October, but not insanely so. When in September are you considering going? You'll be able to get really good deals in either month because both are considered the off season. But it's actually a fantastic time to visit the theme parks. If you're hoping for cooler weather, I'd do October. If you want to head to the beach, September might be a little bit better of a bet.

In September, it's so unbearably hot that it's hard to breathe.  Would never advise someone to go to an amusement park in September.

The beginning of October is still pretty hot.,  I go to a professional conference on the 3rd weekend in Oct every year, and in the morning it's already so hot that you have to carry your blazer walking from the room to the elevator.

The best months here are November, February, and March - although it's been over 87 every day now for two weeks.

So if you can only come in Sept or Oct, choose Oct as late in the month as you can.

    Thanks everybody!! :)

If we choose September we would be going the 13th-20th (cheaper flights on Thursday to Thursday).

If we choose October we would be going the 18th-25th (we have a wedding the weekend before, so couldn't go any earlier.. again cheaper flights Thursday to Thursday).

I know Universal Studios has halloween themed things at the park in October, are those worth going to?  I haven't been to a halloween themed amusement park, even though Minnesota has Valleyfair which becomes ValleyScare in October :)

I was in Virginia (the state) this past fall, and it still seemed pretty hot to me in September and October, is the weather comparable there to Florida?

  • Halloween Horror nights is an extra cost when going to Universal and I love it! My sister and I have been going every year for five years. It changes every year. We get frequent fear passes so we can go a bunch of different times. I love Universal. My whole family has season passes. I would choose October over that early in September.
  • Jelenybeany - I PMed you! :)

Halloween Horror Nights- is it just themed stuff?  I've never been to anything like it, so have no clue what we'd be getting in to lol!  Feel free to reply to that in the PM if you'd like! :)

  • We were in FL (Palm Beach area) last Oct the 20-25th and it had great weather.  High 70's/low 80's and sun.  There was hardly anyone at the beach, but for us it was warm enough.  Although I realize Orlando isn't on the coast, but i think you'd have good weather

  • I went on a family trip in October last year and we couldn't have picked a better month. It was still in the 80s and there were no lines at any of the theme parks it was great!

  • i think if that's what you and FI want to do it's perfectly HM enough :)  you already got great responses so i have nothing more to add except have a great time!!

  • Ok, FI and I talked about it and he isn't into the Horror Nights (he doesn't love scary things), so we decided to move our honeymoon to the first week in November (I think the 2nd to the 9th?)!!  We figured the weather would still be really nice (based on posts above) and that way he didn't feel pressured to do Horror Nights stuff!  Also, MN starts to get chilly in November, so the warm Florida weather will be a VERY nice change for us!! :)
