  Did you go to a makeup counter/salon or did you use a makeup artist?  Did you bring pictures of what you wanted? Were you descriptive in explaining what you wanted and when you didn't like it, did you say anything or suggest she do something differently?
  
  I do think it's important to be proactive when you are doing a trial.  The whole purpose of a trial is to get it right.  But the artist does need some idea of what you are wanting--they can't read your mind. 
  
  That being said, I was not happy with my first trial at all.  Sometimes, it doesn't work with the first artist.  I changed artists and went for another trial and was thrilled.

  Hey, I wasn't happy with my first trial either. I would try a new makeup artist, or go to the MAC store or the Bobbi store if you have one near you. Also -- I would bring a picture. And make sure you tell them exactly how important it is to you to have a certain look. I definitely don't think you should settle, this is your day, and I think someone will be able to give you what you want. That being said, I told my first trial girl I wanted to look like I had run through a field of wildflowers, and she gave me the eye makeup of a racoon. Major disappointment. Try again with a new girl.

  I have been to the MAC counter for other things, but as much as I love to play in the makeup counter there, they always do it so glammed up..way too heavy for my bridal. I finally got some pics from my trial day, which I used for my portraits. Did mine with Empire Faces, and they did what I wanted.  I agree with JoyMatt, it's a good idea to bring a photo (or several) and be clear about what you want with them. Even experts need to know what direction you're going. My artist worked with me, and now I know I don't have to stress out on the wedding day. I know lots of brides think a trial is like an "audition" for the pros, but it's not.. It's for working out the details so there's no guesswork on the big day. But it's ok if you don't like something, if they are pros they will have no prob fixing in my opinion.  I hope you find the right one. Here's a pic from my trial...I'm excited!!

  This happened with me too sorta. We had a courthouse wedding first for lots of reasons and had my make-up done for that. I didn't tell her what I wanted because I had no idea what I was doing; the make-up came out fine but it wasn't 'me'. I only wear foundation and mascara and she made me look like a different person. If I had more time I would of asked her to re-do it.
  
  For the actual ceremony in December I will be definitly be bringing in a photo of what I want - otherwise they don't know what you want.

  I wasn't happy with my first, second, or THIRD trails! I ended up picking the makeup I like, and am going to do it myself. Just make sure you are VERY clear with what you envision when your makeup artist asks what look you're going for.
