Transportation for Guest

I am getting married July 10 and our wedding will have several out of state guests. The wedding will be near a big city where there is public transportation, so I have recommended those coming to the wedding to use that to get around and see touristy stuff in the area. I have suggested, however, that on the day of the wedding they should probably rent a car to get to the ceremony as there is no public transportation in my home town. So far I don't think any of our out of state guests have thought about that and/or are not considering this.

This creates a problem for me, as I find myself worrying about how to get these 25 or so out of state guests from the hotel we have booked to the church. I don't want members of the wedding party to provide transportation, as we will be busy taking pictures and getting ready before the wedding. Would it be okay if I asked some friends who are guests to provide rides for the out of state guests? Is it rude to ask them to do that if they are guests at our wedding? HELP!

I think the guests need to figure out their own transportation.  This isn't something you should worry about.  As long as you know that you have told them that there is no public transportation from the wedding to ceremony, they'll figure it out.

ETA:  You might consider hiring a shuttle or bus service for the day.

  • You shouldn't ask your guests to do anything but show up.

Ask if your hotel has a shuttle.  Mine did, and they were happy to drive OOT guests around since we were giving them 20 or so booked rooms.

yea, I think it would be rude to ask your friends and guests to act as chaffuers for other guests. personally, I'm of the sort that, while I will provide transportation info and maps and block off hotel rooms, I'm not going to be responsible for my guests actually getting to the wedding as the majority of them are adults and can get themselves around the nation.

provide the info, but if they can't get there, then don't worry about it.

  • Congrats! July 10th is a great day (biased opinion)!

Ok, on to your post.  They're adults.  I'm sure they've traveled before, and can figure out how to manage getting around now.  Relax.  =).  Maybe they've already planned a way to commute with someone else to cut down on gas/rental fees. You never know.
