Minnesota-Minneapolis and St. Paul

Happy Monday/Snow Day!

So, as a lot of you know, I work at the U of MN... and...we have a snow (morning) day today! Holy crap.  Including being a student, I've been there 8 years and this is the first time anything has been canceled.  I was planning on taking the afternoon off anyway, so I'm home for the day.

I have't ventured out yet, but it looks like our parking lot/driveway has been cleared as much as possible.  The cars are plowed in pretty good, so I'm even more thankful I decided to keep my garage spot an extra month. :)

How's everyone else doing? Anyone else have school/work canceled today?  How much snow did you get?

I was so up for my first official "snow day" at the U of MN, but all of the clinics are still open!  Enjoy the day off for me.

On a positive note, the roads were fairly clear and the commute was actually quite speedy.  I think a lot of people must be staying home today.

Edit:  I totally forgot it is President's Day, that explains a lot on the commute as well.

I got stuck in my development twice because the side streets are not plowed it seems.  Luckily there was some nice people out and pushed me out both times.  Once I got on the highway/interstate it was good.  I would have just called in, but I have a doc appt anyway so I get to leave work early.

I hear more snow is coming this week and we could possibly have another storm next Sunday into Monday just like yesterday.  REALLY?!?!  Why mother nature...why?!?!?

I don't have to go to work today simply because of the holiday. So I guess it's a snow day for me too :-)

It looks like we got a foot here, my dog sure loved running around in it!

@ Work for me.  Our company doesn't have a formal "snow emergency" policy so I dutifully came in.  And I'm the only one here.  boo.

I do have the satisfaction of knowing that if today is the end for me, I'll have gone out with good marks in my favor.   Followed DH to work today to make sure his Taurus cleared the drifts (I have and AWD SUV) and then helped a co-worker push his stalled pickup into a parking space in the ramp after it died on him.

I did nearly get stuck on Hennepin Ave today because they plowed it so poorly.  That didn't make for a happy commuter, that is for darn sure.  If I had trouble with it with a high clearance vehicle, I can't imagine how many other cars are going to be stuck there in a few hours.

Judging by the snow pile against the doors this a.m. - we got over a foot in St. Paul.  Not sure what they're going to do about the snow emergency in my 'hood because the night plow streets didn't get done over night which is where the day plow folks have to move to.  If they don't get our day plow route done today either, not sure where we're supposed to go!

Well Mankato's classes didn't get cancelled, and we alwasy get hit hard! My little car can't get out of the parking lot, so I am just staying home!

My work is doing a late start, opening at 10, which has never happened in the 5 years I've worked there! I schedulded PTO today & I'm STILL sick anyway, so either way I wouldn't have been going in. We got quite a lot dumped on us here, in the northern suburbs. Not sure exactly how much but it looks nasty! Drive safe ladies!! = )

I must say I am a little bummed - I didn't have to work today because of the holiday. But at least we have to holiday because if we didn't I would still have to go in. Police Departments don't shut down for the snow LoL.

I am at work. But so many people are WFH (working from home) today. My job is computer based so it is nice that during bad weather people can WFH. I need to start bringing my computer home on the weekends/nights so this is an option for me.

I took the day off. After driving around in my car yesterday I decided it was time for a mental health day/snow day. I have a 36 mile commute and have spent more than my fair share of my life in my car already this winter so I am done. Plus I really need new tires so my car has become quite difficult to drive in the snow. Then to top it off our snowblower died so there is a 4' drift behind my garage stall. FI's truck was able to bust out but my poor Malibu would not see the humor in the situation. I am going to work from home a bit by mostly I needed to catch up on homework anyway!

I had to travel the rough 100 feet from my bed to my couch. I WFH on Monday's, so thankfully no commute through the snow for me.

It has been entertaining watching the plows in the school parking lot across the street. So far two different ones have gotten stuck at some point!!

FI and I went after the first layer last night after I got home from the GTG and then he did the back this morning so he could get out of the driveway. Our neighbor, who has a snowblower, did the front for us this morning. It was Wonderful!!

I have a snow day today, Hamline canceled for the whole day. :) That is weird that you don't remember snow days in the last 8 years Steph, because I can remember 2 specifically while I was in undergrad at the U! lol. Snow days will forever make me happy even when I'm a "grown up". ;) It was more exciting since I found out last night instead of waking up early, since then I got to sleep in.

A whole long day of homework for me! Ugh. But I get to go out to Mancini's tonight for my great grandma's birthday, she is 90 years old and still going strong! :)

Wish I had a snow day. I guess I had half a snow day. I was snowed in until the plow came at around 12:30. There was no way my little low to the ground car was getting out of the neighborhood. I am now at work(Dr's office) until 6 but got my invites pretty much finished this morning so I cant complain!

<div>I think they've canceled night classes lately, but this was the first time I've had off from work.  They like to 'close' at 4:45 so all employees still have to report for a full day.</div>

Huh, weird. I remember in freshman & either junior or senior year waking up and having all classes canceled for the day, but I suppose that doesn't mean that employees got the day off.

I think we got something like 16 inches in Bloomington.  I was off for Presidents Day anyway, but FI called in because the plow hadn't come through our alley yet so there was a 4 foot tall snow bank at the end of the alley that was impassable.  They finally cleared it at about 4:00 yesterday.
