Bridesmaid dress question

So two of my girls have picked there dress. The other two live in Nevada and were supposed to go look Wednesday but never did. They asked if we can wait until the end of February to order them because of money and I said that was fine but I want the dresses at least picked out. I don't want to be a crazy person or anything about it but I want to get moving. All my girls are wearing different dresses and I still have one other girls that needs to pick one out. Advice?

My second issue. My sister has had weight issues all her life. She has been seeing a doctor and trainer for 1 years now and has not lost the weight. She is having that band put on her stomach in February. The thing is she could be 100 lbs lighted come the wedding. What do I do about her dress. The dress tore keeps giving me the run around and different advice and I am getting frustrated. What do you ladies think I should do? The store does keep telling me we should order then together because of the color differences in the dresses if they are not cut from the same material. HELP ME?!

  • 1. As long as you told them to order by the end of February, I would assume that means they have to have the dress picked out by then as well. In other words, why does it matter that they have their dress picked out NOW if they won't be ordering until the end of February anyway? Unless you need to pre-approve the dresses, then I can understand your frustration.

    2. I'm not really sure about this one. 100lbs is a HUGE difference that I don't think regular alterations can take care of. Has the store told you what the absolute latest date is that the dresses can be ordered (even if it means paying a rush fee)?

  • I second what Jessa has said.   If you need to preapprove the dress then I would ask that everyone pick their dress out by a certain date.  Otherwise, just make sure they stick to their February order date.  For issue two, I think you are going to have to wait to order your sister's dress if she could lose that much weight.   Alterations on a dress for someone who could lose that much dress is a whole new dress period.

  • In theory, you sister should loose some weight, so maybe order the dress 2 sizes smaller than it is now. I know with my wedding dress they said they can take it in up to 4 sizes and still have the dress look nice. After that it starts to look a little wierd.

My BM dresses will come in 4-6 months, so the latest they could order would be March and then that's cutting alterations short. Maybe her dr can give her some clarity of how much weight (at minimum) she should expect to loose.

As for the rest of your girls, let them be, end of Feb is still more than a month away and if they're all wearing different dresses then the color batch isn't going to make a big enough difference that anyone will notice.

  • I understand how you feel with issue #2.  One of my bms, had gastric bypass done four months ago.  My mother, also had it done a few years ago, but has been told she needs to start working out again or she could have a heart attack even shoveling for more than 6 minutes at a time.  I'd demand that the dress shop give you an absolute latest date.  If it is a chain store, call another one and tell them that someone is pregnant and due on a specific date.  Ask if that gives them enough time to have the dress come in.

Also, the dress shop that I purchased my dress from sells smaller (discontinued/sample) dresses and adds corsets if they don't fit.  Maybe it would be possible to order at the latest date they say and if she loses any more they can take it in about 3 inches total and put in a corset to make sure its tight enough.  An empire waist might help as well.

    1. I agree with PPs unless you are preapproving the dresses, I would just let it go. If they need to order it by Feb, then let them have until Feb and don't worry about it.

    2. This is a little more difficult. I agree with PPs, find out the latest date that they can order a dress and try to put off ordering hers as long as possible, that will give you a little more working time to see if there's a difference yet. Also as suggested by PP, different styles are more forgiving/easier for the weight loss/gain situations, such as an empire waist, or the use of a corset, as they allow a little more give/ability to alter the size.
  • Thanks guys! Maybe I am being a bit of a bridezilla. I think I am more frustrated because the girls in Vegas keep telling me there going so I get excited and then they never go. I just want my wedding vision to come together.

So you think the color difference wont be a big deal since the girls all have different dresses?

  • Do you know how much the rush order is? This might be totally out of question, but can you order all of the dresses late? They'll be ordered together, just cost more :( also, I think different styles make the color look a bit different. Ruched sometimes looks darker than flat to me. So I don't think anyone would notice unless you told them it was a shade off.
