good idea or bad idea?

just trying to get an idea what people think.
I don't even know if it's advisable to do but I remember reading about a way to get lower quotes from vendors. It wouldn't work with all of them like a florist but where you can you simply say you are having a party or a special event and you request a quote for their services for x-amount of hours.
I can understand people doing that. It seems as soon as I say wedding the price jumps. I say that seems unfair. Is it just me?
Would you try this?

Re: good idea or bad idea?

  • I could see this getting very sticky where contracts are concerned. I don't know, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing this -- they're going to find out eventually, I would think!

  • I think they would find out eventually almost always. A quote is not the same thing as a contract. Contracts have lines like "event type". What vendors were you thinking of?

The only thing I could think of is like booking a hair appointment because usually the bride is more expensive.

Agreed.  Anything vendor related for the reception (venue, DJ, catering, etc) will likely figure it out as soon as you get there and I'm sure florists would also be able to figure it out before hand.

I would say just be honest with all your vendors.  You don't want to have them leave last minute from a breach of contract on your end by not telling them exactly what to expect. Plus sometimes they need special or other equipment that they may need/not need for one type of event versus another.
