anyone add sleeves to their dress?

hi ladies,
i need to wear a fairly "conservative" dress (most of back covered, shoulders covered), how many of you have added sleeves to your dress? i've seen several strapless dresses that i've liked but i've had a hard time imaging cap sleeves on them. i want the sleeves to look natural and as if they're part of the dress. this is one of my favorite dresses so far:
do you think sleeves on a dress like this would look weird? thanks in advance!

How about a pretty bolero jacket over the dress?  That would achieve the same effect without significantly altering the gown.

Have you ever watched Say Yes to the Dress?  I have seen them add cap sleeves to a few dresses  to almost a three quarter length sleeve to a strapless dress (see episode with the Duggar Family).  If you have a few dresses in mind go there, i am sure Kleinfeld can accommodate you.

I second the Kleinfeld thing -- their seamstresses are amazing. However, if they're out of your budget (they were totally out of mine), the a bolero would be super pretty with that dress.

On the dress you like, I don't think any mods you'd make to it would look organic. The sweetheart neckline will make it tough, and the fact that there's a lot of action with the skirt and beading will make any additional changes look like design overkill.

My advice is to keep shopping, especially if you don't want a bolero or jacket. And if you do want one, try to look for a dress that has a coordinating cover available. Pronovias has a few dresses with matching boleros - anyone who's been to Spain knows that you have to have your shoulders covered in a church, even if you're just visiting as a tourist.

Some of the mainstream labels - Casablanca and Jasmine come to mind - design a lot of their dresses so that they don't look like crap should a bride wish to add cap sleeves or something more substantial. Jasmine calls the mods "temple ready," because they're designed for Mormons. I believe they even have a tool on their site so you can see what they can do: http://www.jasminebridal.com/J_1_4.aspx . You can see that the dresses they recommend for this have simpler skirts and straight-across necklines (or slight sweethearts).

Casablanca will make their cap sleeves out of the same material as the dress - even the embroidery and beading, so they don't look like they were slapped on as an afterthought.

Finally, when is your wedding? You may want to wait until after the royal wedding to go shopping - if Kate wears sleeves (and she probably will, since royal weddings tend to have modesty requirements), you're going to see an onslaught of sleeves.

Oh, Ma Duggar's dress buildup looked like a$$! In her case, she was better off getting a dress made for her (doesn't she make her gazillion daughters sew?), but clearly, TLC forced her to go to Kleinfeld.

    thanks for the response ladies.
i'm not a fan of a bolero jacket- don't think i'll be going for that option. and 37 butter knives, i appreciate your input- i agree- sleeves on this dress will probably be overwhelming. im just scared that when i do find a good dress the sleeves won't look "natural".
