Rehearsal dinner location

Hi, I am looking for any suggestions for out-of-the-box rehearsal dinner locations in Pittburgh. I am not looking to spend a lot but unfortunately, the back yard option is out because of the zise of our yard and the distance from the church to either parents' houses. Any suggestions on locations would be great! Thanks!!

Where are you located?  That would help because it sounds like you may not be wanting to travel far from your church.

The church is in Carrick. Most of the bridal party lives in or will be staying in Oakland, Northside, and Southside. Though both sets of parents live to the southeast, near Greensburg. I am not adverse to a half hour drive, or around there but I do want to make it convenient for everyone cause that day and the next will be busy & tiring.

I can't really think of much in the South Hills that would be considered out-of-the-box. Have you maybe considered a brewery like the Church Brew Works or Rock Bottom at the Waterfront?

What exactly would be considered "inside" the box....?

Ours is at Joe Mamas. Their prices are great, the atmosphere is casual and fun, and the food is awesome, but it is pretty traditional

Thanks for the suggestions. I guess "outside of the box" is a bad description, but I meant any kind of restaurant and the food did not have to be any specific type... looking at the suggestions on The Knot, they were a lot of the places one would typically have a wedding reception, instead of a more laid back rehearsal dinner.  Joe Mama's is a great idea and a nice central location, with easy access to 376 for the parents. I tried Church Brew Works, but the FMIL and FFIL are both against alcohol and there are already tensions from us getting married in a Catholic church.... DF asked that we not add fuel to the fire by having the rehearsal dinner and a Catholic church turned brewery.  Thanks for the help!

This probably isn't funny on your end, but it made me laugh! Probably best to stay away if your FILs have issues with church and alcohol.

Deb at Joe Mamas has been very, very nice! We went in on a random Saturday and they gave us tons of food to try, so yummy! There are two draw backs, 1. the rooms don't hold a lot of people 2. there is no elevator which can be an issue with elderly folks.

I'd email them, Deb is great with getting back to you.

We had ours at Claddagh in South Side Works. And I don't know what your time frame is, but something that worked for us (and our BP & families) was that we had a 2pm rehearsal at the church and meal following right after. We got a better price because it was lunch hours and it was so nice to have some time to wind down in the evening.

Are you getting married at St. Basil's?!?!  That is the parish I grew up in (my parents still go there), but we live in South Side and got married in St. Adalbert's (Prince of Peace parish)!!!

And Joe Mama's is where H & I had dinner on our first date! :)

The owners of the Harris Grill (in Shadyside) just opened up a new restaurant (formerly The Shiloh Inn) called The Shiloh Grill right off Grandview, appropriately enough on Shiloh.  I've never been there, but I do like the Harris Grill, and I like the building and enjoyed going there when it was The Shiloh Inn.  It would be pretty convenient too, by Carrick and so close to all of the parkways.

I happen to have a personal bias that Mt. Washington is best, most convenient neighborhood in all of the city, though, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Outside of the box near there makes me think of The Melting Pot in Station Square.  Fondue is pretty different than the normal fare.  I would also suggest Mt Washington, any restaurant as most have great views, as it is a pretty easy drop from Carrick onto 51 and up the backhill to Grandview Blvd.

Ok, I totally know where that is! I grew up down the street from the high school. Went to Kindergarten at Concord Elementary, right by St. Pius!
