Save the Date Question

Do you HAVE to mail out all STDs? Or can I give some to those I see everyday & save on postage? I passed along a few to family members this weekend, I have a few people here at work that are going to be invited and was wondering if I can just give them the envelope? Or is that a no-no...? Help?!

Re: Save the Date Question

  • I think etiquette wise it's better to send them (I mean my mom told me to just hand hers to her so I did). But yeah I think to ait on the side of not being rude sending them is a better bet. (Trust me I know postage is expensive just bought mine for the save the dates lol)

    I agree.<div>
</div><div>As far as stamps go, to save some $$ you could get them at Costco and Sam's Club- I know Costco usually sells them for a good price. Also, if you go for the stamps that say 'Forever' on them, you can always use them even if postage goes up because they keep their value. I do a lot of shipping at work so that's how I know, lol.</div>

  • I agree etiquette wise, its better to send, but I will probably still hand mine out at our engagement party or whenever I see people.

  • Handing them out seems too informal- even for STDs

It depends on many factors...I have a lot of out of town guest (all of FI's family lives out of town and I mean in about 15 different states) coming and I know a lot of them need a while to get their plans together. I was going to send mine in early July but that is semi early for other people. I know other people who are waiting until august or september. It really just depends on how convient the wedding is for your guest

  • Thanks for the input ladies. I kind of figured it wouldn't be appropriate, but I wanted to ask. Also with the whole time frame wise, I'm just anxious to get them out, I don't feel the need to "wait for the appropriate timeline". I've got them ready (ish) so they'll be sent out! :)
  • I agree handing out it informal but some of the family or friend will just get them handed to them when they are around our house (parents siblings, some BMs/GMs) We are sending ours in August, but not to everyone on our gust list, only close family and friends. Anyone else? I know that might be rude but my FMIL said thats who will keep them after not distance friends or parents friends.

  • While probably not the most appropriate we are handing ours out for the most part with the exception of the OOTs. Simply because in reality no one here really knows about STDs to begin with and we see the majority of our locals on a weekly basis it seems silly for us to spend money on postage for something like that. We will however be mailing the actual invitations. I think the when though depends on your situation.

  • I've received Save the Dates in campus mail before...that's free and I think completely acceptable. However, in the real world, that's not always an option. I think it's valiant to try to save money on postage, but recognizing that time is money is also important. In the time you take to drive to friends' homes or remember to hand them out at get-togethers, you might as well just mail them. You also avoid potentially rude scenarios such as handing a friend a Save the Date while an uninvited acquantance is present.
