Tipping vendors cash or check?

This might be a silly questions but when you tipped some of your vendors did you put cash in a thank you card or was it a check? We are planning on handing it to them but just in case I was thinking with a check then you know they cashed it. What are you/did you end up doing?

I held onto some cash for my vendors that didn't own their companies and then we tipped accordingly.  If you do checks just make sure you don't fill them out until the wedding day b/c you may wind up wanting to tip either more or less than what you have written on the check after you have seen your vendors "in action."

I'll probably do cash in envelopes.

FI and I were just talking/wondering about this. Would we tip our photographer? (It's his company) And how about officiant, hairstylist, dj, etc? Would it all depend on if they own their company and/or if you feel it in your heart to do so?

I'm glad I saw this post!  I didn't even know you were supposed to tip vendors!  I know you are supposed to feed them but is it standard to tip?  What is a normal amount?  Also, like the above post said my photographer owns the company, would you still tip??  Thanks!
