ADT

We're having ADT install a home security system in our house on Tuesday.  Has anyone had a home security system installed?  How much information do they give you that day?  H will be home during the installation, but I was wondering if I should take the day off too.  If the technician doing the installation is going to give an extensive overview of the whole thing, I'm thinking I'd want to be there.  But if he's just going to hand us a booklet with info, I don't want to waste a vacation day.  Any thoughts?  WWYD?

Re: ADT

  • I can't say what they did, because H stayed home. He explained it when I got home, and it wasn't a big deal. I will say, though, he had to choose a 4 digit code and a password without me, and we didn't discuss it beforehand. I wish we had decided together, but not THAT big of a deal. I'm going to say, no, you don't need to be there.
  • As long as your H remembers everything they tell him and he writes down the passwords that you need, I think it's fine that you are not there. I would discuss beforehand the passwords that you want to choose, most likely a 4 digit number, and possibly a word or phrase that you will need to know if the security company calls you if your alarm has gone off.

My parents had ADT installed at their house many years ago. I was not there for the installation, but I know all important information that I need to know and it's never a problem.

I've never seen a technician install for you, we have Protect American in our house and we did the installation ourselves. Well H placed the sensors while a phone operator activated em. I think it took like an hour total.

We came up with the codes together but nothing I would need to be there for.
  • ADT did ours and explained everything very well.  If your DH is good with details and retains things you will be fine.
  • They walked me through it and showed me everything that day. Asked me where I wanted my motion sensors (I was a renter who was broken into 4 days prior hence the alarm). the guy was awesome he even took the time to show my then 8 yr old son how to use it too for piece of mind.
