Help Please! Is My Dress Too Casual?

Hello, I'm new here but I would love some advice. I kind of rushed into having a dress made and now I'm not sure about it. The designer basically combined elements of a few dresses I liked, the top of one I tried on and the skirt from a picture I liked, so I didn't really know what it would look like until it was done. I like it (but am not really in love with it) but I'm worried it's too casual for my wedding. I think it would look perfect for a beach or outdoor wedding, but mine is at a modern-looking hotel and will be pretty formal (my fiance has his heart set on a James Bond-esque tux and I don't want to make him dress down to match me). I've put pictures below, do you guys think I'll look underdressed at my own wedding?

I'm not sure but my mom thinks it will be too casual. She's offered to buy me another dress, but I'm feeling guilty having already spent time and money on this one. What do you think?

I don't think so. If you think it's too casual then dress it up with jewelry.

For the type of event you are describing, I picture ballgown. Something eloborate or classy to go with your FI James Bond tuxes! But, if you are comfortable in the dress and you love it, then that's what you should wear.

I agree with Lilou - the forum for your wedding down sound rather dressy and also picture a ball-gown or a more elaborate type dress/train, etc. I do think your current dress is very pretty, but you must feel comfortable.

It's hard to tell. I mean, the top looks like it is a shiny, formal type fabric. The bottom is fun. I think it can work. There may be ways to make it seem more formal if you think it needs more.
- Like PP said, jewels!
- You could also go with some really nice gloves....they can really help the formality of a gown!
- Is there anyway you can put a petticoat (or whatever it is) that you can put under it to make it a bit bigger?
- Also....you could get a cathedral length veil to up the formailty during the ceremony.

whoah i don't think it's too casual at all. there's a lot going on with your dress and lots of detail. don't worry about it. you can always dress it up with accessories and/or veil.

I would dress it up with accessories. And maybe a brooch or a sash with a brooch at the waist of the dress.

You looks gorgeous to wear it. Cause it's a strapless one, you may have some jewelry to highlight the entire feelings.

Add a crinoline to make it a little fuller and add some jewelry and I think it would be perfect.

Honestly, absolutely stunning! I am love with the simple elegance this dress eludes; jewelry is a great route for taking your look from understated beauty to modern glamour.

However, if you were thinking mininmal jewelry, you might consider a brooch to scrunch the center of your sweetheart neckline for that special added touch. Otherwise my only other suggestion would be to tie a rhinestone sash that hides the seam connecting the bodice to the skirt so that the gown has a fluid look! This is where I got mine...something simple like this one might do the trick, just enough glitz to catch the light and add some glimmer

Agree with the above comments that you can dress it up with jewelry, a veil...

it looks like you could do a pretty elaborate necklace because of the neckline too.

I don't think it's an informal dress at all! Beautiful!!

I agree, I'd first try dressing it up with some WOW factor jewelry, but I don't look at it and think "beach/garden wedding" If your entire wedding was black tie, I'd maybe say it's not enough, but it's certainly fancy enough to wear with fi's tux. I think it's lovely.

I don't think it is too casual, but if you don't feel comfortable with it and if the budget allows, maybe you could get another more formal dress for the ceremony, and wear that one to the reception.

But, I also agree with PP, a veil and jewelry would dress it up a lot.

I think it sounds perfect for the wedding you describe and I think it will look lovely with a groom in either a peak lapel tux or white dinner jacket (not sure what you mean by James Bond Style).

I think if you were getting married at a cathedral and having a big hotel ballroom wedding or a castle or something it might not be enough.

But a modern hotel seems just the right setting, elegant sophisticated and not over the top formal.

SOME mothers just really want to see their daughter in a ballgown, but I think honestly that would be out of place.

I second, third, fourth.. :-) all the above comments. I do not think that is casual in any way. It's very pretty and it looks fantastic on you. In addition to the all the suggestions above, an elegant hair piece and/or veil can also dress it up even more.

But remember, class and elegance has a lot to do with "attitude" ... how you carry yourself. So if you feel elegant, luxurious and simple spectacular, then that will show...even if you are wearing a garbage bag tied with rope! :-)

I say, wear it if that's the dress you wanted (don't let someone elses taste influence yours) and be a BOND girl! :-) Work it!

I agree with everyone else.. Dress it up a little.. maybe try a belt type of thing with lots of bling.
