The Elks at Bass Rocks

Hi everyone,

My fiance and I look at The Elks at Bass Rocks today and really loved it.  We have one concern though and that has to do with our outdoor ceremony.  The area they have designated for an outdoor wedding ceremony is right along Atlantic Road.... we are wondering if anyone has had their wedding there or has been to a wedding there and what your experience was with cars on the road during the ceremony?

Also if you had your wedding there which caterer did you use?  What were the price ranges?

Thank you for your help!!

Re: The Elks at Bass Rocks

  • We looked at the Elks at Bass Rocks and a bunch of venues in the area, but in the end, decided that it was actually going to be more expensive that our other options which would have been OK except for a couple things. The view is absolutely gorgeous, but as I was Googling other weddings that have taken place there, I found pictures with cars in the background of the ceremony. Depending on the time of year though, we were told their bushes will block the view. We ended up going with the Phoenix Room in Newburyport and we're so pleased with the way everything is turning out (we still get our waterfront ceremony, and since most of our guests will be from out of town, it's much more of a destination feel). If you're set on Gloucester, I'd try the Bass Rocks Country Club. It winds up being a little cheaper than the Elks at Bass Rocks, and since you're at a country club, you have the benefit of having the beautiful greens for your ceremony (and you still get your waterviews, it's just from a hilltop). The facility is also much more modern and the caterer they work with is super nice.
  • My FSIL got married there last year and I don't remember the road being an issue during the ceremony (at least not to me as a guest).

I took a few pics of the family afterwards and I did catch a random car or two but it's manageable, just depends on your expectations- if you'd be mortified by ANY cars driving by it may not be the best choice but if you can overlook the occasional passerby I think it should be ok. They also went across to the rocks and took some amazing shots by the water.

I'm not sure which caterer they used but I think they just went with whoever the venue recommended the most and I thought the food was really good! I distinctly remember the clam chowder and a cream sauce pasta...

    Good luck with your decision!
