MyRegistry.com vs Amazon Universal registry

I know there have been previous posts on this but they were all old and I wanted something updated.

Who has used these? They both seem to have their downfalls. I'm leaning slightly more towards Amazon because people are more familiar with it. I worry about duplicate gifts though. Anyone had good/bad experiences with these?

FI and I haven't received any gifts yet, but we HAVE purchased gifts for people's weddings through Amazon in the past, and we have started a registry there that we're currently playing around with.

My only real annoyance with it is when things randomly get outsourced to a different vendor other than Amazon so you no longer get prime or super saver shipping, but if you have enough variety on there it's not a problem... and often things get shifted back to Amazon after a few weeks. I LOVE the convenience of it, free shipping (most of the time), and the fact that I get points back with my Amazon credit card.

I have never used MyRegistry.com and had never heard of it until TK. I had heard of Amazon's before TK.. I would recommend Amazon if only for the name recognition.

I have not used myregistry.com but I have heard people say that it can be annoying for the person purchasing the gifts because it does not directly link with the selling site. So for example if someone orders the toasting flutes on your registry and it links it to the macys website the person ordering them actually has to go back to your site and put that they are purchased. I could see this being a problem if peope don't realize they have to do that or don't know how.

I am using amazon.com because I haven't found a registry that is so all includisve. I haven't had one thing that I wanted that I haven't been able to put on there on amazon.com.

I have never used an Amazon registry, but my elderly parent's have encountered them before. My mom is pretty tech-illitereate, but my dad is a CPA and and has a dencent grasp on the internet (but they still use AOL if that gives you some perspective). A daughter of a friend of theirs recently got married and had an Amazon registry and it confused the hell out of them! It wasn't very hard to understand for me, but they definitely needed me to hold their hand through the gift buying process. This may not be a problem for younger guests, but older guests may really struggle.

I have zero experience with myregistry.com, but when I google "myregistry.com" + my name + my FI's name I immediately encounter "amazingregistry.com." They have two of my three registries listed and I NEVER gave them ANY of my information. I would be very wary of this website, but maybe that is just me. Perhaps it is totally legit?

We used Amazon, and we added things both from Amazon and from other websites using the Universal registry option. We received many gifts from both sections of the registry. I like that it has the option that guests can choose "purchase from another store" for any of the items, so that they can still mark something as purchased even if they don't buy through the registry.

As a guest, I like buying from Amazon (we are Prime members) and would definitely check out an Amazon registry first (and then would check out both Amazon items and universal registry items), whereas I probably would not go to some random website that I had no experience with to purchase something.

I posted about this website a few months ago. Apparently it's one of those sites that combines your existing registries. You don't sign up, it just searches your name in wedding registries & compiles together all of the registries you have. You need to edit the options to delete your info from there. I don't remember the exact process, but it involved them emailing you a link to remove the URL from Google's crawl. I did it & now my info is gone from their site.

I LOVE amazon!!!! I am a total advocate!! I have not had a single bad experience and I have been using amazon for 5 years or more and the last 3 years have been really intense with me buyign the majority of my gifts and needs on Amazon. You can find ANYTHING there! I was looking for kitchenaid red accessories for the kitchen that I couldn't find on bedbath or crate and barrel (I didnt feel the need for a macys or bloomies or whatever registry, i want to try to save people some money). but amazon had everthing I was looking for!!

I tried myregistry.com and HATED it. The layout is annoying to me, it's frustrating and I can't maneuver as easily. I am definitely not using it and will stick to amazon.com, crate and barrel, and bed bath and beyond (you can't go wrong with 20% off coupons!)

I'm using the amazon registry and it's been incredibly convenient. the only downside is that it might be confusing for older guests, and that there is no 'completion discount' after your wedding.

the 'older guest' thing was brought up to me by my grandma... she wanted us to register at a brick and mortar store so that people could go buy things there. the only problem is by doing that, we limit the elderly people to only those items, and we limit everyone else to NOT buying those items because we'd be trying to reserve them for the people who dont want to buy online

much more of a headache than it's worth -- especially when we have a lot of BBB items on our amazon registry =P

bottom line - we kept the amazon registry, and have listed in the 'comments' fields under each item if it is available at a different store. guests who are uncomfortable with the registry can just ask a younger relative for help. we also figured the older guests are the ones more likely to give cash, or go rogue and buy something not even on the registry. lol

In your case, I would just register at BBB and have a BBB registry and an Amazon registry. If you have a lot of BBB items, why would you not want to get the completion discount? BBB also charges for shipping on most items. If you know at least some of your guests prefer to shop at a bricks and mortar store and you actually want a lot of things from a bricks and mortar store, why not register at that store?

I don't understand what you're saying about limting your guests to online options or in-store options. People can buy you whatever they want. If I am at BBB and can't look up your registry in the store (because you only registered on Amazon), I'll just buy you something I pick out from BBB. Registries are suggestions, not requirements.

I like it because it just feels more "wedding-y" than Amazon, which is a site I go to for everything for everything. Idk if that makes sense haha. I also really like that you can sync with in-store registries so if someone buys something at Macy's in the store it will get checked off on MyRegistry.

I guess it does seem weird for guests shopping online to have to buy and then come back to check off the gift, but I just made a little note in my welcome message telling them what to do and as far as I can tell no one has had any trouble so far. My mom shopped off it for our Christmas presents (which was awesome!!) and didn't have any trouble!
