how much to tip event manager?

hi all, i am getting married saturday at an abigail kirsch venue. the event manager there really runs the show on the night of the event and it is customary to tip this person. my FH and i have not loved the guy we are working with, but the hardest work is the night-of and as long as that goes well we will be fine. we are quite unsure how to tip. a friend tipped $800 for an AK wedding with 130 people, and another tipped 1K for an AK wedding with 165. we have 180. thoughts??

TIA!!!

I think you usually tip between $3-5 dollar per guest - so in your case, $540-900.  I'd use that as your base and then see how things go (if you are using cash, you can adjust accordingly; if check, don't fill it out until the end of the evening).  Personally, 180 folks is quite a few, and even if you don't like the guy, if everything runs well, then something approaching $800-900 is fair, imho.  GL and enjoy!

slbriz-- i agree, i want to tip fairly for a job well done since the night-of is the most important part. i *do* wish i hadn't had to hear about how so many of his clients are so bitchy, such bridezillas, and that he has unflattering nicknames for all of them. i don't really want to be thinking about what my nickname from him is! but if th enight goes smoothly i'll be happy.

Hahaha, if you are as nice as you are here, then I should hope no nickname (or at least not a bad one!).
