To Veil or Not To Veil

I've been second guessing my veil choice.  I purchased a birdcage veil because I love how it looks, however when I tried it on I realize that it restricts my vision.  Not a lot but I don't think I want to be looking at my wedding day through a birdcage veil.  I've played around with other ways to wear it so it doesn't cover my eyes or just one eye, but none of the other way look good on me.  I love how the birdcage veil LOOKS when on, I just don't like looking through it.

So I'm thinking of getting a regular veil.  I really love veils and realyl want to wear one on my wedding day, but then I worry that my dress just won't look good with a veil.  Here's my dress:

I'm thinking of a finger tip veil with some weighted stones at the bottom so it hangs down the center.  I just don't know what to do!

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

Re: To Veil or Not To Veil

  • I like the birdcage veil. I think you should try it on together with your dress. As far as 'looking through it'? I'd say when you feel totally restricted or blind, take it off?

But then again, I plan to take off my veil for my reception, so I may be biased :)

  • just try it on all again and decide...i wound up getting a cathedral veil that matched my dress perfectly so i will be taking it off after the first dance! goodluck

  • FI had a point that whenever I try on the birdcage veil I am looking short range (mostly at myself in the mirror or around the room.  He suggested I go outside and look off into the distance, as I will on the wedding day for the most part.  He had a point.  It's not as noticeable that there's fabric over my eyes when I do that.

So... I'll just bring the birdcage veil and if I don't like it on the day, I just won't wear it!  Thanks ladies!

  • I would def try to birdcage veil with the gown and if you are still set against it then I would go with the finger tip veil.  I think that would be perfect with the style of your dress!

I think this is a good choice :)
  • I didn't vote. I am torn between birdcage and no veil.... I personally don't think a traditional veil would go that well, but I could be wrong. That is a hard dress to imagine and not see everything with.
