Interview Update!

I've been meaning to post about my interview on Tuesday, but have been posting on the job search section of proteacher alot for advice. So here's the update...My interview went well. The principal who interviewed me is retiring after the summer. The principal replacing her asked her to fill the open positions before she leaves. There was also an intern sitting in on my interview, someone studying to be a principal or assistant principal. I told them all about my previous teaching experience in Philly and they were amazed at how academically intense the program was for Kindergarten. I told them it was not my philosophy and I did not think it was age appropriate, but I paired with my principal to complete the tasks at hand. I also showed them my portfoio. They were impressed and told me I have great characteristics. They also seemed to really like the idea of me moving to where I get hired.

It turns out while I thought they were only hiring for one position, they are hiring for several. They told me they would know by the end of the week. I talked to one of the people listed as my references and she got a call from the school Thursday to do the reference check. She called back on Friday. The person who took her reference check told her she is not the one in charge of completing them and the person who is was out of the office. I didn't get a call yesterday, but I am sure that's why. Hopefully on Monday I will get the call. The wonderful ladies on the jobsearch board over at proteacher assure me they wouldn't be calling my references if the school did not intend on offering me a job.

The best thing... The school is only a 25 min drive from my husband's hometown.

Re: Interview Update!

  • Oh wow! That seems wonderful. I really hope you get hired!

I'm not having much luck in my search. I've decided to send emails to the principals where I have applied because when I call I also seem to get a nasty secretary who could care less.

  • Thanks Tara!

I'm sorry you had that reaction with the office staff. It is always a toss up on how the office staff is going to react to follow-up calls on applications and interviews. Just keep being persisitent in your search and I am sure you will find something. Are you a member of proteacher.net? They have a great message board for job searches, etc.

I forgot what you are doing currently for work... Do you have a teaching job and you are trying to switch schools? Or, do you have a job outside of the career of teaching and are trying to get back into teaching?

  • I teach only 4 days a week at a Catholic school. I teach computer classes but I only get paid $80 a day with no health insurance. I taught 7th grade language arts for three years in a public school but I got laid off when the budget crisis hit NJ.

I'm a member of Proteacher but never go on there. Maybe I'll check it out.
