Re: twilight fans? (please don't kill me everyone else!)

  • I'm a quasi-fan. I hope they do that and the birth scene justice. Otherwise, I'm going to be a little disappointed.
  • They better not skim over all the good stuff, or I'll be pissed.  All I wanted to see from the beginning of the movies was broken headboards and bitten pillows. ;)

For real though, I want to know how they're going to show the fourth book accurately while keeping it PG-13.  I've heard they're going to do the birth scene from Bella's POV so they don't have to show anything.  I have a sad feeling it's going to be like 'hey! look at this new house!'... fade to black... fade into a sweet, romantic looking scene with soft heavenly feathers scattered around.

ETA: I feel like I should clarify that I'm not obsessed with the books either, but they were entertaining.
  • Me too Steph. I side-eyed my coworker when we went to see Eclipse, because she squealed every time Jacob came on camera. It was ridiculous.
  • I won't lie- I go to the midnight shows but its part of a tradition with a middle school friend. In middle school- we waited overnight for concert tickets. Now- we go and geek out at movies. Its a big bonding thing for us.

As for the movie itself- I think there is NO way they can NOT make it weird and yucky. The book just doesn't lend itself to a movie well....

  • I've read the books, but have not been impressed with the movies. I'm hoping that since they are breaking up the last movie into two parts it will be better.  I'm looking forward to seeing the wedding, honeymoon, and birth scenes and hope the movie does them justice.

I used to go to HP every year on my birthday, because the movies would come out ON my birthday, or just before. That was fun, we'd stand outside for a few hours. But I wouldn't do a midnight showing.

  • I just saw the on the cover of OK magazine that the sex scene is "so sexy it had to be censored". Granted this was OK magazine, so not exactly a reliable source of info!

I went with a friend to see Twilight at midnight. Actually, I never really saw the movie since I passed out 5 minutes into the movie (although all the wine I drank prior to the movie was probably to blame for that). Needless to say, I don't do midnight movies anymore...

  • I don't understand why the book needs to be two movies, its not that long and she is just pregnant for most of it and there really wasn't that much plot for a movie in the first half of the book, it could easily be one movie. Personally I thought the series was ok up until the 4th book and I think the movie will be pretty horrible.

  • I think they are probably doing overkill with the movies. Very few sequels are good past the second movie, and it does not matter if it comes from a book or not.

I mean, if the third Godfather film could strike out that shows too many sequels is a bad idea. Fergodsakes in that situation, the author of the original book wrote the screenplay and it still did not work. Of course, Sophia Coppola's performance as Michael's daughter was so horrible it just overshadowed the whole film. At least with another Twilight or two, you know the performances won't blow -  even considering that I would not expect to see "R Pats" winning any academy awards in future years. Even he is not horrible as an actor, just sort of blah in spots.

<div>I don't think anyone here is trying to compare Twilight to The Godfather. That would be absurd.  The one big difference in judging the potential success here, too, is the target demographic.  Twilight is soaking up the 'tween' market, which I've heard has the largest disposable income.  They also probably don't give two sh.ts at the quality of acting and writing as long as Edward sparkles and Jacob howls at the moon.</div><div>
</div><div>ETA: I'm not sure, because I'll admit I've never seen The Godfather series, but Twilight isn't really an 'original' movie and sequels.  It's an entire story broken up into 4 parts, ya know? It'd be more like saying HP couldn't be popular in the sequels... when it's really not like that. It's all just one story.</div><div>
    </div><div>
</div><div>aaand now I feel like a moron for caring so much to defend Twilight.  But your response was kind of insulting, like saying we're dumb for thinking Twilight can be successful when even The Godfather couldn't pull it off.  In all actuality, though, we're just talking about being excited to see a sparkly vampire bite a pillow while having sex so awesome it breaks the headboard. </div>

</div><div>I was not comparing the Godfather with Twilight except to say that if EVEN the Godfather can start to run into issues with sequels, it can happen to ANY sequel, since the Godfather is considered by some to be the greatest series (I&II) of films ever made. </div><div>
</div><div>I do consider myself a Twilight fan, actually and I can tell you these movies and even the books (though not as much) have a closet following among the "older" demographic - which I guess in the case of Twilight would be over 25-30. This sometimes cynical bitch actual finds myself enjoying the romance of them - the first Twilight I think is the most romantic modern film I have ever seen without heavy sex scenes. Also, the the cinematography in the woods scenes particularly is beautiful. I saw Eclipse with another closet case friend of mine and we really liked it, too.</div><div>
</div><div>I just hope more movies don;t water it down and mess it up. I am sure they will be successful regardless of what this old chick thinks of them :)

    </div>
  • I don't think they can show more than kissing, some undercover writhing and floating feathers and keep the PG rating.  Maybe the broken headboard would be okay.

I don't see how they do a gory birth scene when nothing else in the movies has been gory at all - even the fighting/death scenes.  Anyone who hasn't read the books would be unprepared for all of that.

I wonder how they will film the final battle scene and actually have it be a good climax to the movie.  Meyer didn't do a good job with that in the book.
  • steph i love that you defend twilight.

I am just worried they are going to do a fade to black. I am 25- I don't want to see a fade to black. But- I think they will totally water it all down... to keep the rating...

Well, I am a pretty big fan, hense my fricken name on here...

I WAS NOT impressed with Twilight the movie! It completely ruined the book. And Bella seemed like she was uncomfortable the whole movie, or about to throw up. New Moon was better, and Eclipse by far is the best! Fi even likes Eclipse the best. He was yelling (and that is not an exaggerating either!) while we in the theaters for the vamps to fvck the newborns sh/t up. It was pretty funny.

I think BD (Breaking Dawn) will be okay split into two parts, I have seen a lot of photos online from their honeymoon filming and they are cute. The only problem I have is that Stephanie Meyer wrote it, but she won't let it be filmed that way because of either modesty, or keeping it PG-13 rated. Which that is the part that frustrates me, if tweens can read about it and have their own imagination about it (which they have) then it shouldn't matter if you see it on the big screen.

Like during the honeymoon scene, I guess Bella has to wear shorts over her bathing suit bottoms to be somewhat more modest (since SM is mormon) and supposidly the wedding dress that SM had the final say on is really modest as well, not like she described in her book.

But I won't lie, the part I am looking forward to most is seeing if there really are feathers :D and the broken headboard! Also seeing how they age Nessie so fast....!
