WR: Opinions wanted

So, FI and I may have had our first fight over the wedding. It wasn't really a fight, but  a disagreement. We started dance lessons yesterday morning. So, now we have to figure out a song to dance to. We don't have "a song". So, I told him the only stipulation was that it had to be a song that I knew. He wants big band music from the 40s. So, we picked out a few possibilities, but nothing really caught us and made us say YES! That is it! So, I suggested a Christmas song (since we are going with a winter/Christmas theme in December). We both like the song Baby, It's Cold Outside. And we always dance to it in the living room when we put up our Christmas tree or bake cookies for the holidays.

So, to my question... Do you think it would be totally corny to use a Christmas song for our first dance?

I think that song would be really cute and perfect for a winter wedding. It's not really a Christmas song after all. It's more of a "winter" song. I say go for it.

That song is definitely cute! I think it would be really nice as a first dance song for a winter/christmas theme wedding. And there are so many versions you can find one that really suits the two of you!

Which version is your favorite. I tend to like the older classic versions, but I know Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson did a version "back in the day" when they were married.
  • edited December 2011
Yeah, we like the older classic version, but we want to do the fox trot and maybe a little bit of swing. So, the classic version might be a little bit slow.

I think it would be cute, and not cheesy because it's not really even a holiday song :) I think it's even more appropriate because it has meaning for the two of you.

1.) I've missed you. Where have you been?? 2.) If it's song that means something to you as a couple, go for it regardless of cheese factor. I don't think that would be cheesy at all though btw.

Awww, thanks! I've been away at camp, working as the camp director for the past 8 weeks. We have spotty internet at camp, so I hardly ever got to log on. I've missed you guys too! I feel like I have a lot of new people to get to know, and I need to catch up on all the NEY gossip :)

I love that song and I agree with PP that it's not really a 'Christmas' song. I think it would be perfect for your winter wedding and love that it means something to the two of you. Go for it!

I think it is a great idea!  I love that song and it's even better that it means something to you as a couple.

I think that would be really cute. You might want to check out some Michael Buble songs if you decide not to go with Christmas. He has a very older 40s sound but is so popular today. I'm not sure if he did a rendition of "Baby It's Cold Outside" but I wouldn't be surprised if he did.

That's a great idea for a first song! Maybe you could go on iTunes and listen to some different versions... There are so many out there, one of them is bound to be the right one!

Go for it, it ties in with your wedding theme and it has a special meaning for you both.  :)  I am sure that you can find a version that you can do the fox trot too or swing too.

I guess I'll be the odd ball out here and say that I'd raise an eyebrow if someone used that as their first dance song.  But, as others have said, it's about what YOU think and not really what anyone else thinks.

I love that song, and I think it's a lovely first dance song. Like PP said, it's not particularly a Christmas song, it's more of a winter song, and it's perfect to dance to, especially if you're looking for a 40s big band/swing dance type song. I'd go for it, and even if it has a cheese factor, I'd assume the people who care about you at your wedding won't care. They'll just be saying "awwwww."

Nah, it's more about a one night stand? Lol... We are going to talk to our dance instructor and see what songs he recommends.
