Photography by Orlando? pricing?

My SIL used them for her wedding and he did a great job.
We thought we had it all figured out and would use him as well.  However it's only been 5 months since her wedding and he has increased his prices by $1000..  Has anyone here used them and gotten any deals?  if so how?? 
Same sorta thing is happening with the DJ. 
Does anyone else think that once the vendors know you like them and want to use them they up there prices or does it just seems to me that way.
Any other photographer or DJ recommendations would be great.

    Think about this - your sister in law probably booked him well over a year ago... and he was probably selling himself way too cheap back then.  He then realized that in order to actually MAKE MONEY and STAY IN BUSINESS, he needs to charge more.  Yes, $1000 more because he probably realized you can't have a viable business model shooting weddings for $2000 and also give away the disc of images.

    Either that, or he got tired of shooting 85 weddings a year and doesn't want to skimp on quality.  He wants to lower the number of weddings he shoots by weeding out people like you and have clients that value him and his work.  With the lower number of weddings, he can concentrate on delivering a quality product, be responsive, and cater to his clients' needs.

    So the answer is NO.  He didn't just raise his prices to try to scam you since you like his work.

    Check out other forums and you read about this sort of thing ALL THE TIME.  Look at what happened to Celebrations Studio.  You can't run a viable, profitable business charging bargain basement prices and giving away the farm.

    bereasonable, while you make a fair point, I think that was unnecessarily harsh.

    OP, I see you are fairly new.  Can you tell us a little more about your wedding?  Time of year?  Location?  Budget for the vendors you are seeking?  That will help us give you more specific recommendations.  

    I agree that most reputable vendors are just trying to make a living with their services and are not looking to scam you.  That's where we can help, and also check out the vendor review website for reviews of specific vendors, and you can always check the BBB rating for the vendors you are considering.

    WOW, YOU actually sound upset, as if I offended you.
    My post was in NO WAY meant to offend anyone.

    1st off we do love Orlando and value him and his work
    otherwise we would not have even considered him.
    HOWEVER we do have a budget to stay within and were very upset when we thougt he was within and found out he was out of reach
    I was NOT accusing him or anyone else of SCAMMING people 
    So DON'T put words into my mouth!
    He is NOT a $2000.00 photographer
    And how would you know what is in his package??
    We are all on here to help eachother NOT bash people
    Are you even a bride?

    I'm sorry if it came off as harsh.  I like to speak the truth and not sugar coat everything I say, but I do apologize if I've offended you.

    I just found it a little bit ridiculous that you accused Orlando and other vendors of "upping" their rates because they think that they "got" you.  That kind of foolish thinking is rampant on this board.

    Sorry that he's now out of reach for you.  But you know... that happens.  Companies raise their prices all the time.

    I also met with Orlando as my all of my fiance's family have used him in the past (we are talking about 1 to 2 weddings a year). My wedding will be taking place in March of next year, which is consider an off season month. He priced me for both video and photography, with my album, parents album and engagement session for I believe 9 to 10 hours (I can't remember the time exactly) for around $8,000. Although i heard very good things about him, he was way over my budget. I ended up going with Alex from Alken studio in Wayne and I am very happy with my choice. I have pretty much the same package but 13 hours and he is doing my sign in book for $5,500. I just attended a wedding 2 weeks ago and he was the photographer, but I was dissapointed that he wasn't there. I believe he is getting more popular so his prices will definetly increase. I think there are many good photographers so make sure you do your research and meet with all of them.

    I agree, Bereasoanble, this is another pretty harsh post from you tonight for no reason.

    It is true though that your SIL probably booked him well over a year ago if not longer, and over that time, his prices could've increased since then. $1000 does seem a little excessive though. Are you sure you are getting the same package that she got?

    Sorry! Yes, Alex will be at my wedding...I have two photographers and one videographer. Alex will go to my house and his assistant will go to my fiance's house. For the wedding I attended two weeks ago, Orlando was the photographer, but he wasn't there.

    Why are you automatically assuming that he was providing cheap albums before? She has already mentioned the price of this photographer, and he is definitely not on the budget side, at least what I'd consider "budget".. Yes, maybe he is offering a better album, but that doesn't mean that whatever album he was offering before is "el cheapo". And that would insinuate that her SIL received an "el cheapo" album as well.

    At 6-8K, it opens up a lot of possibilities from some really creative people.  I would shop around.  And at that price point, you better be getting a Queensbury

    It is completely obvious from the way you made that comment, along with your previous comments that you were insinuating that this photographer was selling cheap albums prior to raising his prices.

    You appear to have it out for every photographer that is ever mentioned on TK for some odd reason. Maybe you are a disgruntled photographer that is annoyed that nobody wants to use your services.
